December 17, 2021

Hello Lutherville families,

A reminder that next week we have early dismissal at 1:05 on Thursday, December 23rd -- our last day of school before winter break. And don't forget we have the PTA Pop-Up Spirit Wear shop on Saturday at school from 10-12.

We had a full week here at school, featuring Colonial Day for 5th grade, final meetings before winter break for our clubs, and tons of learning! Some personal highlights for me were listening to 5th grade chorus singing, working with 3rd graders learning different multiplication strategies, and kindergarten students learning about various cultural celebrations that occur in the winter months.

Throughout this week I have just been so impressed with out staff and students -- our school family -- and the work we've done together in 2021. With no school next Friday, there will not be a Lab Report.

Wishing everyone a safe and joyful winter break.

In partnership,

Colonial Day!

Colonial Day was celebrated in 5th grade on Wednesday after the time period was central to Social Studies and Language Arts all fall. Students continued their learning about the time period and enjoy crafts, treats, and games from that era.

Garden Club Centerpieces

On Thursday the Garden Club continued their tradition of making holiday center pieces -- one for home and one as a gift. They were beautiful!

Holiday Phonics in KG

Kindergarten students learned about the many winter holidays celebrated by a variety of cultures. Here a student sorts holiday words by the number of syllables.

MAP Growth Home Reports

We are grateful for the parents that were able to join us on Wednesday to learn more about the MAP Growth assessment and what you can learn about your child from the home report.

Please see the attached PDF with some more explanations that can unpack the "Goal Areas" listed on the back of the report and connect your child's RIT score to concrete skills and concepts. We'll use these baseline scores to inform instruction this fall and will assess again to measure growth in February.

“Gym-NEWS-ium” PE News and Notes from Mr. Bruns

Lutherville Lappers
Congratulations to all the Lappers who kicked off their Thanksgiving by running a 5k at Towson's YMCA Turkey Trot! Our students trained for 10 weeks this fall and did a wonderful job working hard and improving their aerobic endurance! Way to go Lappers!

Twelve Days of Fitness

Join us for "The Twelve Days of Fitness." Please see the attached calendar and keep moving over winter break. Students can check off their calendar each day they complete an activity and return to Mr. Bruns for extra credit. Students will be able to get a hard copy of the calendar during PE class. Happy Holidays Lutherville Lab and keep moving!

A Look Ahead at the New Year

We will kick off the new year with the "heart adventure" unit and students will travel through a gym size heart obstacle course learning about the function and parts of our heart. In January, please keep an eye out for our "Kids Heart Challenge." This fundraiser for the American Heart Association and celebration of Jump Rope for Heart.

Upcoming COVID Vaccination Clinics Upcoming COVID Vaccination Clinics

As we continue to see an uptick in COVID cases, we want to continue to provide updated vaccination information.

Was it lost? It may be found! Was it lost? It may be found!

If your child has lost an article of clothing or water bottle -- it may have been found. And it could be waiting for them in our Lost & Found in the cafeteria. Please encourage them to check this when they come to lunch or encourage them to work with their teacher to come and check.
