A Note from the Principal
Day 127/180
This week, we kicked off MCAS in grades 4 and 5. In addition to the hard work and focus students showed during testing, they were also able to enjoy some well deserved celebrations. Mornings began with a special breakfast that included breakfast sandwiches, french toast, smoothies, and yogurt with fresh strawberries, along with music and time spent with therapy dogs before a parade through the halls. Throughout testing, healthy snacks, gum, and fidgets were delivered to each classroom thanks to parent volunteer Jessica O’Mara and the many families who donated. After testing, students had the opportunity to choose their specialists, followed by a celebration in the cafeteria with snacks, drinks, and prizes earned through tickets collected during the test. These moments are a reflection of the effort our students put forth and are well deserved.
Aligned with our drive for high achievement and growth also comes a strong focus on attendance. On the 90th day of school, attendance letters were sent to families whose child had missed 9 or more days of school, as those students were on pace to be identified as chronically absent, defined as missing 18 days or 10 percent of the school year. As we approach day 120, letters will be sent again to families whose children have missed 12 or more days. These letters are meant to inform and keep families aware of attendance trends. No response is required unless there is an error that needs to be addressed.
Next week, Merlin from Playful Engineers returns to the Jacobs. On Tuesday, all students in Kindergarten through grade 4 will participate in the Artful Mechanisms program, a hands on workshop that complements our STEAM work. Students will create kinetic art using everyday materials, exploring motion, design, and creativity with support from our specialist team. We are grateful to provide opportunities like this, that bring learning to life in such a meaningful way. Merlin will also be back the night of our Art and STEAM Show in May. Thank you to our PTO for bringing this engaging experience back to the Jacobs School.
Lastly, families of 7th grade students are invited to attend the Middle School Science Fair tonight from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. Come see the creativity and hard work of our 7th grade scientists. (Please enter through the receiving doors near the cafeteria.) Tomorrow, our elementary students will have the opportunity to enjoy presentations from our 7th graders during the school day, continuing to build connections across grade levels.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership as we work together to provide the very best experience for our students.

Notes From The Nurse
Mrs. Yakubian says...
As a reminder, if your child has been diagnosed with lice, school policy requires that they be checked by the school nurse prior to returning to the classroom. This helps ensure that students can rejoin school comfortably and minimizes the spread within our community.
Mrs. Yakubian is also available to provide guidance and helpful resources for treatment and prevention if needed. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Children's Author Josh Funk to Visit JES on Monday!
We are excited to share that the PTO is funding an author visit with children’s author Josh Funk for our K–5 students this Monday, March 30. His presentation will help make reading and writing feel real, exciting, and possible for children as he shares his own childhood writing, and shows students how authors brainstorm, revise, and persevere. Students will also take part in an interactive “Cooking Up Characters” activity that builds creativity and confidence. We know this special school-wide experience will inspire our students as readers and writers.
Students will have the opportunity to have books signed, if they bring one in. We have found the cheapest way to order is through amazon.
