Principal's Message
Hello Pioneers,
As always, I hope that you and your families are having a wonderful weekend. Welcome to the last week of the school year; it is amazing to think how fast it went by. This year has been a successful one by every metric, and I would like to thank every member of the Pioneer Family for their contribution. To every parent, mother and father, abuelas and grandfathers, aunts and tios, thank you for your support of our school, our community, and above all, our Pioneer Scholars. To every teacher, teaching assistant, counselor, custodian, cafeteria worker, UMHT member, dean, assistant principal, secretary, and security officer, thank you for the tremendous love, care, advocacy, support, patience, and grace that you gave to our students this school year. To every student, every Pioneer scholar, thank you for your contribution to our school. Thank you for your growth, your humor, your hard work, and your talent that you gave to us. You are the reason that each of us, all of us, get out of bed each morning and dedicate ourselves to being educators. To our eighth graders, we wish you the absolute best in the next chapters of your lives. We are proud of the young men, women, and people that you are becoming. We know that each of you has all the ingredients of a successful life within you. We will continue to cheer for you, support you, and be here for you when needed.
This week will be a busy week as always.
Monday, 6/8: We will celebrate our sixth graders at our 6th Grade Award ceremony. The ceremony will take place in our auditorium at STM and will begin promptly at 6:00 PM.
Tuesday, 6/9: We will celebrate our 7th graders as well, also in our auditorium. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 PM.
Wednesday, 6/10: We will celebrate our 8th graders one final time at the 8th grade award ceremony. The ceremony will be held at Park View High School and will begin promptly at 5:00 PM.
Finally, on Friday, 6/12, the last day of the school year, we have two special activities planned for our 8th graders. We will celebrate them with our annual 8th grade picnic during the school day, and we will give them one final “salute” with our “clap-out.” Sixth and seventh grade students, along with every staff member, will line the hallways as our eighth graders make one final journey around the building as a Sterling Middle School Pioneer. We are asking parents, families, and community members to join us outside our main entrance as we celebrate these fine young people.
As always, please share any additional questions, comments, and/or concerns.
Our Mission
Chronic Absenteeism by Grade
10% or more, absent from total days of school
🚩 Current overall rate – 14.3% 🚩
- Sixth-grade rate – 13.6% 🟢
- Seventh-grade rate – 12.7% 🟢
- Eighth-grade rate – 16.6.% 🟡
Tiers:
- 🟢 10% to 14%
- 🟡 15% to 24%
- 🔴 25%+
We need your help with keeping our chronic absenteeism rate low. Students need to be present in school to learn. We want all of our students to be successful and this starts with them being at school each day. Our goal is for all grade levels to be in the green (tier 1). Please make sure that you talk to your child about the importance of being at school every day.

Nurse's Corner
Dear Parent/Guardian:
If your child has medication and/or medical supplies remaining in the health office, the medications need to be picked up by a parent/guardian. Emergency medications should remain in the office through the last day of school.
Please pick up medication/supplies on one of the following days:
June 11th from 8:30am to 3:00pm
June 12th from 8:30am to 3:00pm
June 15th from 9:00am to 2:00pm
· Per the Virginia Department of Education, medication CANNOT be stored over the summer.
· Medication WILL BE DISCARDED if not collected by the end of day on Monday, June 15th.
Loudoun County Public Schools requires a new provider/physician orders each school year for the medication or specialized care which your child receives at school. If your child will continue to need medication or specialized health care at school, you and your child’s licensed healthcare provider must complete and sign the proper form(s). Please note that parents may not amend the provider’s order for managing the child’s medical condition.
The required forms are available in the health office at your child’s school or online at www.lcps.org/medicalforms. The forms should be returned the week before school starts to the Loudoun County Public School that your child will be attending, along with the appropriate medication, in the original, pharmacy labelled container. Please refer to the “Medication at School Guidelines” for further information regarding medication at school.

Important update in regard to course selection changes for the rising 9th graders - Park View
-Students have until June 12th to make elective or level changes (please connect with your counselor for changes))

Planning Ahead: High School Course Expungement
Did you know that middle schoolers taking high school credit courses (like Algebra, Geometry, or World Languages) have a unique opportunity to "reset" their high school transcript? If your student didn't get the grade they hoped for, you can choose to expunge the course, meaning the grade and credit are completely removed from their high school records and GPA.
Quick Tips for Families:
Automatic Reset: If a student receives an "F," the course is automatically expunged by the counselor—no paperwork needed!
Check the Sequence: Since math and languages follow a specific order, expunging a prerequisite usually means the student will need to retake the course to move forward.
GPA Boost: Consider expunging grades lower than a B- to keep that future high school GPA strong.
Irreversible: Take a moment to chat with your student—once a grade is expunged, it cannot be added back later.
Important Deadlines
To expunge a course from this past year, please complete the Permission Click form by the end of the first quarter of the 2026-2027 school year.
Current 6th & 7th Graders: Submit via: https://permission.click/gN0KP/int/Qaa2/signee-info
Current 8th Graders: Submit via: https://permission.click/l8y06/int/llP/signee-info
If you have any questions about what is best for your student’s academic journey, please reach out to our school counseling department. We are here to help!
