All-School Pajama Day - Friday, April 4
Green Meadow students have been very busy reading and talking about books during our Read Across America Challenge! We will share more about exactly how many minutes students have been reading next week but we wanted to remind you that our challenge culminates with an All-School Pajama Day on Friday, April 4th!
Students can return their challenge suitcases through Wednesday, April 2, to be entered into the prize drawing. We will have a winner from each classroom!
Read Across America Challenge was a Success!
We want to thank our Green Meadow community for supporting students as they completed the Read Across America challenge again this year.
Students read 165, 550 minutes outside of school in the month of March!
That is equal to 2,759 hours.
That means they collectively read the equivalent of 114.95 days.
This is AMAZING! We will celebrate on Friday with an All-School Pajama Day and an assembly. We announced our 24 raffle winners this morning. There was a winner from each classroom. We will recognize them tomorrow during our assembly. We hope our students do not stop reading now that the challenge is over.
Grade 3 ELA MCAS Update
Our Grade students will be participating in the English Language Arts MCAS test on Tuesday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 9. Students have reviewed how to access and navigate the test in Technology this week. Classroom teachers have reviewed sample questions and what to expect. A few things to think about when talking with your Grade 3 student about the tests:
* Students will start the test at 9:00 AM. They have as much time as they need that day to complete the test.
* Students should get a good night's sleep before the test and eat breakfast at home or at school that day.
* Candy and gum will not be allowed unless part of a student's individualized education plan.
* Electronic devices are not allowed to be used during MCAS. Smart watches and phones should be left at home on MCAS days or stored in backpacks (This is always the policy at Green Meadow.)
* MCAS provides information about how we are doing as a school. Students should try their best but should not worry about the test. They will take an MCAS test many more times over the course of their school experience.

Counselor's Corner
Do you want to raise strong, resilient kids? Resilience is having the ability to bounce back from challenges and difficult situations. We are not born resilient; we become resilient while facing and conquering life’s challenges. As educators at Green Meadow, part of our job is to allow space for our students to make mistakes, learn from them and use that knowledge to grow as learners. Our hope is this practice will help them become more resilient. Turns out that helping kids learn to fail at home may also be beneficial! Additional SEL resources can be found on the Green Meadow Social Emotional Learning Resources website.
