Dear HMS Families,
The Valentine’s Day Dance is right around the corner. We are looking for your help to make the dance a success with donations and volunteers/chaperones. The dance is Friday, February 6th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. Dinner will be provided along with dancing and an open gym.

Please remember that on Tuesday, February 3rd, we have a late start. Students should not arrive on campus before 9:05 AM.
We will be kicking off Black History Month this upcoming week with an assembly with GenXsis Step Team coming to perform. If students want to learn how to step and perform with the team during the assembly students should complete this Google Form (students will need to sign in to their BSD account to complete this) to potentially participate in the Step Workshop.
Progress Reports were emailed home on Friday, January 30. Please feel free to reach out to individual teachers if you have any questions.
8th grade promotion pictures will be on Friday, February 6th. Students will take pictures with and without their promotion gown. Please know there will be no pictures with caps as we do not wear them at our promotion ceremony. Please see additional information about the pictures below.
Heritage students have been doing an amazing job coming to school in the month of January. We are hoping that continues into February. Next week, the goal is to have perfect attendance. Those who do will get 50 PBIS Points, Friday Dress Down (Monday for 8th grade due to picture day), and get entered into the raffle for a free Valentine's Day Dance ticket and ice cream at the dance. Any student who has perfect attendance or only misses one day in the month of February will get 250 PBIS Points.
Good luck to all of the Heritage students who will be auditioning for Matilda Jr. next Monday and Tuesday. If you have any questions about auditions, please make sure to reach out to Ms. Winter.
Thank you,
Michelle Hauer

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) - 8th grade only
We are pleased to inform you that our school has been selected to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). The assessment is scheduled for February 9th, 2026, and will involve students in 8th-grade undergoing tests in reading and math. There is no need for students to prepare specifically for this assessment, as participation is intended to be representative of their overall learning. A total of 50 students will be chosen to participate, and we will send a letter to the parents of those selected with further details about the NAEP assessment. Please watch for an email titled "NAEP Assessment" for more information.
Family Resource
District 100 strives to ensure that all students and families feel safe, supported, and valued in our school communities. Fostering an inclusive and welcoming school environment is deeply ingrained in the culture of our district and is fundamental to the success of our students. Resources to support families with immigration-related concerns are available on the family resources page on our website.

Heritage Spirt Wear
Purchase Friday spirit wear by using the link below.
PBIS Rewards
We utilize an app called PBIS Rewards where students earn points throughout the school year for being Responsible, Respectful and Safe. We have a PBIS store that we open for students to purchase fun items with their points. We also do raffles, field trips and a winter extravaganza that students can utilize their points throughout the year. We encourage students to use their points by the end of the year as they do not roll over!
StopIt
This week, students will download STOPit to their iPads. This is an online application that Heritage students have access to. This application allows students to anonymously report incidents of bullying, misconduct or general concerns. All reports go to the support service team and administration, which allows us to act quickly and in real time to any concerns or incidents.
Breakfast & Lunch
Students at Heritage receive free breakfast and lunch each day if they choose to participate, or they may bring their own lunch from home. As a healthy school, we ask that students do not bring pop, energy drinks, or large bags of snacks.
Breakfast will be served each morning before students head to their Period 1 class. Lunch will take place at the scheduled time according to the bell schedule, and students will also have the option to participate in recess during their lunchtime.
Below will be where you can find the menus for Heritage through OrganicLife.
