Good Morning Memorial Families,

We are quickly approaching parent-teacher conferences. We encourage all families to schedule a time to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss his/her progress after the first two months of school. A strong home/school partnership is crucial to every child’s school success and spending time meeting face to face with a teacher is a great opportunity to build that partnership. During conferences, your child’s teacher will have around 15 minutes to discuss progress and address any questions or concerns that you have.

On Friday we held our October All School Meeting. We celebrated student and staff October birthdays and our continued progress as a school with ST Math. We also learned more about our MURSD Portrait of a Learner superhero “Solution Seeker” and practiced identifying problems and generating possible solutions. We also read the story This is a School by John Schu. This book was an instant favorite of mine after its release for the simple manner in which it presents what makes a school community great. The storyline touches on a message of embracing mistakes, celebrating successes, and working and learning together- all things that we try to promote at Memorial every day. What made Friday’s meeting even more special was that we had four fourth grade students, Abby, Annie, Melina, and Navisha leading the entire thing. They were great role models and leaders for our students.

As a reminder, we will hold our Halloween parade on Tuesday, October 31st at 9:20am. If it rains, the parade will not take place. Please do not arrive before 9:10am and do not block fire lanes. Students will use the sidewalk around the building to parade on, so families can position yourselves in the driveway. Please keep the following things in mind:

  1. If your child does not wish to participate, for any reason, they will have the option to remain inside the building and participate in a different (not Halloween-themed) activity with a teacher. We hope all students will choose to come to school on this day, and the parade will be over and done with by 9:45am.

  2. We ask that all costumes be “school-friendly”. This means that we are asking scary costumes to remain at home. We encourage families to send in a costume that is easy to take on and off, is easy to walk in, and please leave the props at home.

Thanks for your cooperation. Have a terrific week!

Warmly,

Wendy and Lauren

School Hours

Our school hours are 8:45am-3:15pm. Drop off begins at 8:45 and students who arrive after 9:00am are considered tardy. We will begin dismissal right around 3:15pm.

Due to the hectic nature of the late afternoon, we will no longer be allowing parent dismissals from the main office after 2:45pm. If your child has an appointment, please plan to dismiss him/her earlier, or make use of our pick up line at 3:15pm. Thank you for understanding.
