K/1's morning market- exploring how we organize ourselves
Dear Families,
Managing Screen Time: What a wonderful gathering and discussion. Being part of this lively conversation with parents was incredibly gratifying and encouraging. The level of trust evident in these conversations is something I have witnessed before at WES and seems to be at the heart of how the community works. Thanks to Erin and Alison for organizing and facilitating the evening and to Samantha Farrell-Schmitt and Jakson Gocsha for helping with facilitation. I know Erin and Alison will be in touch about next steps. Stay tuned.
Conferences: Thanks for the turn out for parent conferences. This is such an important part of our work together to support the growth and education of your children. If you haven’t been able to schedule a conference yet, please contact your child’s teacher. We want to have the opportunity to meet with all of you.
Halloween - what to expect: Friday, October 31, the annual costume parade will begin at approximately 2:10pm on the blacktop or in the Common Room, depending on the weather. Students will get into costumes between 1:50 and 2:05pm. Wearing a costume or being in the parade is, of course, optional for students. Costumes and makeup are not allowed earlier in the day.
We encourage imaginative, homemade costumes with maximum child involvement in the making of them. Weapons or dangerous accessories are to be left at home. We also request that students not wear costumes that objectify and stereotype racial or ethnic identity. For example, dressing as a Native American. In addition, please keep in mind the age-range of students (K-5) and moderate the degree of grim and gruesome your child dons for the occasion.
We hope you'll join us for the festivities, in costume if you’d like. It is always wonderful to experience the children’s capacity to imagine themselves into a character. Cider and donuts will be provided for all students and families after the parade in the Common Room.
Lunch help: We need a volunteer for Wednesday and Friday this coming week. If you would like to volunteer, please sign up on this calendar. November and December dates are being filled, but there are plenty of days not yet covered. If you can look ahead and sign up through October it would be greatly appreciated.
Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org or call if you have any questions (802-545-3301).
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Best, Christina
