Kindergarten Weekly Update
Monday January 22nd - Friday, January 26th
THIS WEEK IS KINDNESS WEEK!
Dear Parents,
Hello!
You may have seen another Talking Points message about our Moon Phases project we are partnering up with 5th grade for. If not, please take a moment to read about it here!
For science this week, we will be studying the phases of the moon. We have a fun activity planned that the entire Kindergarten will be participating in, along with our 5th grade friends. In order to share in this learning adventure, we are in need of lots of packages of Oreo cookies (or the store brand equivalent). If you are able to send in a pack or two, that would be great. We will need about 800 or so cookies in all. Thank you for your help!! And the students are not yet aware of this project, so don't let them in on it yet! You can just tell them their teachers are hungry!
Please make sure you are reading the entire Newsletter to ensure that you are not missing out on information!
For attendance questions and concerns, please contact:
PEIMS Clerk: Shea Harrison sharrison@aubreyisd.net
Attendance Administrator: Anverly Laster alaster@aubreyisd.net
Reminder to ensure your kiddos are wearing dress code appropriate clothing each day for school!
Let us know if you have any questions!
With love,
Mrs. Beck, Ms. Ceaser, Mrs. Combs, Mrs. Stuart, Mrs. Summerville, and Mrs. Yusaf
Our Theme of the Week: Space
Upcoming Events
January 22nd-26th: Kindness Week
January 26th: Fuller Family Gatherings
February 1st: 100th Day of Kindergarten
February 14th: King and Queens Day
Dress up in your finest clothing to celebrate Valentines Day with your classmates! Prince/Princess/disney characters/or just snazzy clothes are welcome!
Kids only, no parents may attend unfortunately - we do have a limit on the number of "class parties" we may have, so unfortunately this will not be one of them.
There will be a valentine exchange. Take some time over the next few weeks to create a box for your child to collect valentines in - it can be anything your child desires - please ensure it is student centered! Please send in 24 unlabeled valentines small enough to fit in a small box.
All materials should be brought to school by Monday, February 12th. Please be mindful of allergens in your student's class - (nuts, milk, eggs) however we will not be eating any goodies at school.
Eating lunch with your child
- check in AND out with the front office
- no background check required, but the school does need to keep track of who is and is not in the building
- you may only sit with your child, their friends may not eat with you at the visitors tables
- you cannot supply food to other children that are not your own
- please encourage your children to continue to follow school rules while you are visiting
These are rules across campus to keep all children safe, and must be followed by all visitors.
Kindergarten Specials
*Please note that Ms. Beck's class is split between classes and will not appear on the schedule.
Optional Home Practice (suggestions)
examples of low/no prep activities:
- read nightly with your child
- practice sight words, letter ID, sound ID, and numeracy (find digital list here)
- fine motor activities like: tying shoes, putting on jackets, zipping jackets, buttoning pants/shirts, stringing beads on pipe cleaner (letter beads can be used to make sight words too)
- bake/cook with your child and let them use math, motor, and reading skills with recipes
- bath time sight words/letter practice with bubbles/bath crayons
- sensory sight word/letter practice with flour, play doh, beans, etc.
We will send home copies of the optional homework choice board below later this week. You can choose to do these, or not, for a fun extra resource of activities at home. We will send a new one out in the spring - these can be done multiple times!
Weekly Reminders
- LABEL ALL LUNCHBOXES, WATER BOTTLES, JACKETS AND MORE. WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THE RETURN OF MATERIALS HOME IF YOUR STUDENT MISPLACES THEM AND THERE IS NOT A NAME LABELING IT.
- Send your kiddo to school with a LABELED, reusable water bottle daily.
- Don't forget a snack, packed SEPARATE from their lunch so they don't eat it at lunch accidentally.
- Pack an extra set of dress code approved clothes in a gallon sized bag, or other container, in case of accidents or clothing emergencies.
- Check green folders nightly, empty and return each day. Any paperwork that needs to come back to school will on the RIGHT side, and teachers will check for returned forms daily.
- Car tags are REQUIRED at dismissal in the car line, as well as Walker Pick up locations
- Email ALL transportation changes to FESTransportation@aubreyisd.net by 2pm.
- We will not go outside for recess if the temperature exceeds 100*F or is below 40*.
- Parents need to drop their kiddos off at the door - fostering independence is essential in Kindergarten! There will be teachers around to help kiddos find their way to our classrooms.
