Davis Dragons Picnic Reward this Week
On Wednesday, we took advantage of the gorgeous weather with a picnic in the park to celebrate reaching our latest goal: 1,200 Dragon Tails! Together, Davis students have earned 2,100 Dragon Tails this year by being respectful, responsible, and safe.
Students enjoyed music, friends, and time outdoors and had a wonderful time celebrating their achievement!
Kindness Club has its First Meeting this School Year
Thank you for joining us at Kindness club! We made lots of cards for the Halloween parade for Wednesday 10/28 for the residents at the Pearl! We reflected as a team on how we can be kind to others in our community. I hope to see new students next time as we grow together on kindness! .

Davis Staff Display Pumpkin Art
Davis Staff demonstrated their artistic talents by painting pumpkins to the theme of a favorite movie. Students cast their vote for their favorite and had fun determining which movies were represented!
Thank you PTO for the Sunshine!
The Davis PTO Sunshine Committee has blessed us with yet another fun and creative opportunity this week! Davis Staff had to take their best aim to claim a prize cup full of goodies. It was fun to interact with the PTO Parents and enjoy a variety of cool treats. Thank you for the time & thoughtfulness that you share with us!
Assessments
In D303 we take a variety of assessments each year. If you would like to learn more about specific state testing and large-scale district assessments as well as the opt-out process for any of the assessments, please click the links below:
Halloween Parade & Party Information - Friday, October 30th
Parade
The parade will be held outside from 1:55 to 2:15 pm. Parents may line up around the Kindergarten playground off of Horne Street to watch the parade.
Classroom parties will run from 2:15 pm to 3:00 pm
Room Parents will be allowed to go to classrooms at 1:30 pm for party setup and to assist with costumes after they have checked in at the office
In the event of inclement weather, there will not be a parade
Costume & Party Guidelines
Students should bring costumes in a bag. Costumes must be appropriate for school. Costumes should not be violent or scary in nature. No blood, guts, or weapons. No masks. Make-up is discouraged because it is difficult to apply. No bare midriffs or scant clothing. Students may be asked to remove or put away any parts of costumes based on teacher judgment.
Room Parents who are assisting with the parties should not wear disguises that would make it difficult to recognize them as a safe person
Only Room Parents may attend the classroom parties and assist students.
Room Parent Guidelines
No more than 4 room parents per classroom may attend. (Others may assist with preparations or goody bags). Sign-up for Room Parents was completed through our PTO in September.
If you have never had your ID/drivers license scanned at the school, it is very helpful to have that done prior to the party. Stop by the office at your convenience.
Room Parents should make childcare arrangements for younger children; they may not attend the party.
Lead Parent: Work with the classroom teacher & other room parents on activities/games for the party
Lead Parent: Coordinate with the teacher & other room parents on any non-edible goody bags to be sent home. No food treats will be eaten during the party or sent home.

Dear Third and Fifth Grade Parents and Guardians,
We want to inform you that your child will be participating in Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) testing during the following dates:
Testing Dates: Monday, November 9th through Friday, November 12th
Make-up Testing: The week of November 16th
About the Test
The CogAT is a digital test that consists of three sections measuring different reasoning abilities:
Verbal reasoning
Quantitative reasoning
Nonverbal reasoning
The test is composed of nine 10-minute sections for a total of 90 minutes of testing time. These sections will be administered in a manner that is comfortable and appropriate for your child.
Purpose of the CogAT
The Cognitive Abilities Test measures reasoning abilities that facilitate learning and problem-solving. The information gathered from CogAT scores may be used to:
Adapt instruction and programs to meet the individual needs and abilities of students
Provide insight into a student's readiness for advanced academic programming, such as the Academically Talented program
If you have any questions about the CogAT testing, please don't hesitate to contact the school office. Please click HERE for a letter from the District Department of Assessment & Accountability.
Thank you for your continued support of your child's education.
Sincerely,
Principal Gina Shaw

Veterans Day Assembly
Please fill out this form if you would like to honor a veteran at Davis' Veterans Day Celebration on Wednesday, November 11th at 2:00. We invite our veterans to come to Davis at 1:45 pm to enjoy a school assembly and a small reception afterwards with their families. We need your help! We would love to invite as many veterans as we can. Forms will be accepted until Friday, November 6th.
Some time next week, your child will bring home a small Veteran Poster that you can complete if you have a family member or loved one who is a Veteran (or currently serving). You may attach a photo or have your child draw a picture of the Veteran, and you may make additional copies of the paper if you wish to honor more than one Veteran. When your child returns the paper to school, we will decorate our hallways with these heroes!
PTO News
News from the Nurses
Info on OTC Medicines, Cough Drops, and PE/Recess Restrictions
Some students are starting to bring in some “over the counter medications” for symptom relief. Please do not allow or encourage them to do that. Students are not allowed to bring cough drops, gum or peppermint candies to school. A Physician order is needed for all over the counter types of medications. The Medication Administration form can be obtained on the district website under the Parent Tab - Nurse/Health Services. Physicians must complete and sign the top portion and parents need to sign the bottom portion before any over the counter meds are given. You should not be sending any medications to school with the children in their backpacks. Please drop off the medication along with the completed form to the Nurse.
We have been seeing an increase in after school/weekend sport related injuries this year. If your child has been injured and/or cannot participate in PE/Recess, please call the Health Office to inform the Nurse of the situation. A physician note with all restrictions is required for the child’s safety. We will do our best to meet our students' needs but need to have the appropriate information to do so. A release will need to be obtained before the child can return without restrictions. We will always encourage students to go outside with their class for “fresh air”.
Thank you for your cooperation with both these very important issues.
