Summer Reading
Project Lead the Way
Students from our Project Lead The Way programs recently participated in the One8 Applied Learning Showcase, presenting projects from Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Biomedical Science, Medical Interventions, and Biomedical Innovation. Student work on display included clean energy automaton boxes, a student-designed health app, a clinical trial proposal for a novel cancer treatment, and six capstone projects that combined the passions and expertise of our engineering and biomedical science students into innovative products.
A special congratulations goes to Ava Hanson and Iris Lathrop, whose capstone project, a redesigned post-surgical drain for breast cancer patients, was recognized as one of only three Projects of Distinction selected from entries across the state of Massachusetts. We are incredibly proud of all of our students for the creativity, professionalism, and problem-solving skills they demonstrated throughout the showcase.

FirstView
Dear Parents/Guardians:
In collaboration with our transportation partner, First Student, Dudley-Charlton Regional School District is relaunching FirstView®, a real-time GPS vehicle tracking and student transportation monitoring platform.
With FirstView, parents and caregivers can download the secure, easy-to-use vehicle tracking mobile app that will allow you to stay easily connected with your student(s) daily trips.
- See the real-time vehicle location via GPS and track its progress.
- Easy access to vehicle details as well as updates regarding any changes.
- Receive multiple distanced-based ETA notifications when the vehicle is getting close.
- Set-up family members and caregivers to receive trip email alerts.
- Dedicated customer support team for all app-related questions.
Let’s get you started with FirstView!
Step 1: Download* the free, easy-to-use mobile app, which is available on both iOS and Android devices. Search for app name: FirstView 1.0 and register for a new account.
*Not all devices are compatible and must meet the minimum operating system requirements. Users from previous versions of FirstView will not migrate over and all users must create a new account.
Step 2: Set up your FirstView 1.0 mobile app profile. You’ll be
asked to provide:
- The 5-character District Code: G3I7M
- Your student’s ID number
- Your student’s last name
Confirm your student(s) name to add them to your profile.
Step 3: Add distance notifications to be alerted in the app or via push
notification when the vehicle is close to your student’s stop location. To set
this up in the app, click on Set Distance Notifications. You can edit or add
additional distance notifications by clicking on the notification bell and
selecting Notifications Settings.
Optional: Add yourself and/or other family members and caregivers as a
notification recipient to receive email alerts. To set this up in the app, click
on the notification bell and select Manage Recipients.

Notes from the Nurse
2026–2027 School Year Health Reminders from the Nurses' Office
đŸ©ºTo help you prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, the Nurses' Office would like to share a few important reminders:
đŸ©ºThe state requires all sophomores (10th-grade students) to submit an updated physical examination.
đŸ©ºStudents must provide proof of receiving the second dose of the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine after age 16.
Please note that the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine is different from the Meningococcal B vaccine. While the Meningococcal B vaccine may be recommended, it is not required by the state.
đŸ©ºAny student who will need to take daily medication during the school day must have an updated physician's order and a signed parental consent form on file with the Nurses' Office. Med Order/Parental Consent Alternatively, your physician's office may fax the completed documentation directly to the Nurses' Office at 508-943-5956, turned in by your student or emailed to rgoetz@dcrsd.org or ecolon@dcrsd.org.
đŸ©ºFor students with a seizure disorder, we require an updated Seizure Action Plan and current medication orders for the upcoming school year. Please let us know about your student's seizures, including what they typically look like, the date of the most recent seizure, and when and if a rescue medication has been used in the past. This information helps us provide the safest and most appropriate care during the school day.
đŸ©ºFor students with allergies, we require an updated Allergy Action Plan and medication orders for any allergy medications that may need to be administered at school. Please also provide updated information about your student's allergies, including their known allergens, what their reactions typically look like, whether they have previously used an EpiPen or equivalent emergency medication, and, if so, when it was last used. This information helps us respond quickly and appropriately in the event of an allergic reaction.
đŸ©ºMandated health screenings will be conducted during the school year. 9th grade students will receive scoliosis screenings. 10th grade students will receive vision, hearing, height, weight, and scoliosis screenings. Parents/guardians will be notified of any concerns identified during these screenings. An opt out email will be sent in the beginning of September if you do not want your student to be screened for any or all of the screenings.
đŸ©ºStudents participating in athletics must have an updated sports physical annually. Sports physicals are valid for 13 months from the date of the examination. Fall sports registration closes on August 10,2026. Physicals may be emailed to ecolon@dcrsd.org and rgoetz@dcrsd.org , uploaded to FinalForms, or faxed directly to the school at 508-943-5956.
đŸ©ºIf your student has medical concerns you wish to notify the nurses at Shepherd Hill about, please reach out to our emails rgoetz@dcrsd.org or ecolon@dcrsd.org.
Please submit all required documentation as soon as possible to ensure your student is ready for the upcoming school year.
Have a Happy Healthy Summer!

Please reach out to Mr. Laliberte with any questions pertaining to Summer School.
Military Recruiters and Post Secondary Education Institutions
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires that all schools receiving federal funds must provide the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of secondary students to military recruiters and institutions of higher education. The act also requires that military recruiters be given the same access to students that is given to recruiters for post secondary institutions and employers. If a parent objects to releasing this information he/she should notify the guidance office.
