PCHS UpdatesFriday, May 23, 2025

A Note from the PCHS Admin Team

PCHS Community,

As we head into the long weekend, we want to take a moment to recognize the significance of Memorial Day. This holiday is a time for us to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the foundation of the freedoms we enjoy today, and we are deeply grateful.

We also want to wish all of our families a safe, relaxing, and joyful holiday weekend. Whether you're traveling, spending time with loved ones, or simply taking a well-deserved break, we hope it's a time of rest and reflection. As we return next week, we’ll be in the final stretch—just 8.5 days left in the school year! Let’s finish strong, stay focused, celebrate our Seniors, and support one another through to the very last day. We’ve come so far together—let’s make these last days count!

Have a great holiday weekend, Pirates!

Mrs. McBride & Mr. McMurray

Today, our Juniors spent 30min of Seminar in the auditorium with a rep from Eastern Michigan University's Financial Aid Office as a way to get them primed for what's to come! Ask them about what they took away from the presentation and how it might apply to their post-high school planning process. Here is a link to the presentation.

June Exam Schedule June Exam Schedule

Here is the schedule for the last 3 days of school in June so that families can prepare accordingly!

Co-Op Work-Based Learning Application Due June 6, 2025 Co-Op Work-Based Learning Application Due June 6, 2025

Earlier this week, Mrs. McBride sent an email to students and their parents who selected the Co-Op Work-Based Learning class for 1st Semester of the 2025-26 school year. That email is below to ensure awareness of an important application step required for placement in this course. Co-Op has become quite popular, which speaks to our students' resourcefulness and impressive range of employment during high school! That said, we need to ensure those enrolled fully understand the state requirements for taking this course and are proactively ensuring they are in compliance.

------

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for expressing interest in enrolling in our Co-Op Work-Based Learning course for the 2025–2026 school year.

This course provides students with the opportunity to earn credit while gaining valuable work experience that aligns with their career goals. In order to comply with the Michigan Department of Education and Michigan Pupil Accounting Manual requirements, we must collect important documentation to verify eligibility and ensure each placement meets all state guidelines.

To move forward with placement in the course, students must complete the official Co-Op Work-Based Learning Application. This application requires students to:

  • Demonstrate how their current or anticipated job aligns with their Educational Development Plan (EDP)

  • Submit a copy of their EDP

  • Provide employment and supervisor information

  • Confirm that work hours align with the scheduled co-op class period or request a special exception

  • Upload required documents (e.g., work permit if under 18, proof of employment)

Deadline for Application Submission: Friday, June 6, 2025
Submitting by this date gives us time to review and finalize placements before the start of the school year.

The application is now available online here:

PCHS '25-26 Co-Op Work-Based Learning Application

If you have any questions about the process or your eligibility, please feel free to reach out to me directly at jmcbride@pinckneypirates.org, our Co-Op teacher, Alecia Sweeney at asweeney@pinckneypirates.org, or your School Counselor (Amy Robinson (A-Le) arobinson@pinckneypirates.org, Nicole Braun (Lf-Z) nbraun@pinckneypirates.org). If you have changed your mind about pursuing Co-Op next year, please inform your Counselor so they can ensure your course requests reflect this before schedules are finalized.

We look forward to supporting our students as they build real-world skills through this valuable program.

Sincerely,
Julia McBride, Principal

Clap Out!

On Thursday, May 29, graduation rehearsal will run from approximately 9-10am in Pirate Stadium. Seniors will then come into PCHS and prepare to be clapped out of our building before heading to the rest of the schools in the district to do the same. They will then return to PCHS for a BBQ lunch if they choose to join in.

We recommend that you arrive at the high school by 9:45am if you'd like to join in on the clap out. Sign in in the Main Office and then be ready to line up in the Commons. Last year, the clap out happened around 10:15am. It just depends on how efficient we are at rehearsal! Good to show up early just in case. There is also a special new element at the end of rehearsal as Seniors leave the stadium which may add a few minutes. ;)
