SP East Band Updates
November 3rd, 2025
November is Myelin Building Awareness Month at SP East!
Myelin plays an important part in any practice or skill development. Check out the video or notes below for more information. Band students will be using this information to focus on growing and improving this month.
- Myelin is the fatty insulation that wraps around nerve fibers to decrease loss of signals, adding speed and accuracy.
- Improving, getting better, and becoming great is more about how you practice and build skills - not about your pure talent. You are in charge!
- Struggle is not optional, it is neurologically required for you to grow and improve. It should be just a little hard and a little bit frustrating. Don’t worry, you are strong and you can handle the challenge.
The best way to build a good circuit is to fire it, follow up on mistakes, then fire it again, over and over - just making it a little better each time.

Solo Projects will get started this week!
This week in lessons, students will select solos for study in second quarter. This is a chance for students to find a solo that interests them and to meet more individualized student musical needs. You should hear solos in the air soon!
