LEWIS ELEMENTARY NEWS
September 30th
Letter from our Principal, Anna Davis
Dear Lewis Families and Caregivers,
We are gearing up for Friday’s Jog-a-Thon! T-shirts have been delivered, pledge sheets were sent home last Friday, and the forecast is looking perfect for a great afternoon of running.
This is one of our primary fundraisers of the year, with a goal of raising $18,000 to support our Celebrate Lewis theme. If you haven’t had a chance to share the fundraising link yet, please feel free to send it to family and friends:
A Quick Update on Friday - Last week, I shared that I was planning to run alongside the students. However, I recently learned that a mandatory district rightsizing meeting has been scheduled for Friday. While the exact time hasn't been announced, if you don't see me out on the track, please know I'm there in spirit!
The District is preparing for the release of the rightsizing scenarios on October 5th, which will be published in the PPS School Board Books at 6:00 p.m. ahead of the October 6th Board meeting. Like all of you, we are eager to learn more about what this means for Lewis and will keep you updated as details emerge.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a fantastic Jog-a-Thon!
Here are a few pictures from the week
JOG-A-THON
Support the jog-a-thon this Friday (Oct. 2)!
If your schedule allows, please come cheer on our kiddos:
12:50-1:10pm Kinder/Post/3rd
1:20-1:40pm First and Second
1:50-2:10pm. Fourth and Fifth
Please help us reach our fundraising goal of $18,000! Reaching our goal pays the bills for the Lewis Winter Bazaar, the Spring Family Dance, our End of Year Picnic, and multiple assemblies during the school year - let’s make these experiences happen!
While we know not all families can donate, we hope you’ll help us spread the word and ask those in your circles to donate, if they can. Click here to donate. You can share this link with friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and anyone else to help support Lewis this year.
And are you able to volunteer?
EVERY SCHOOL DAY COUNTS
As we enter the cold and flu season, healthy classrooms are a priority! Here are some guidelines:
If your child has a fever or is vomiting, keep them home.
If your child has a persistent cough or flu-like symptoms, use your best judgement about whether they should come to school.
If your child is sniffly or tired, they should come to school.
Please communicate that if your child is too sick to come to school, they are probably too sick to play or do fun things at home. Don’t make staying at home too appealing!

Head Lice
We have seen a peak in head lice cases. Prevention focuses on avoiding head-to-head contact, wearing hair up, and weekly checks, Head lice are tiny, crawling insects that live in the hair on your head. They lay eggs and bite your scalp, making it itchy. Lice are most common in younger or school-aged kids. Lice are treatable with special shampoos, creams or lotions.

Upcoming Volunteer and Committee Opportunities
We are still searching for an eager pair of volunteers to lead our Trunk-or-Treat and Celebración Dia de los Muertos planning team. These Oct/Nov events are a delight for Lewis students, but we need two volunteer leaders to step up this week or they may not happen.
You’ll have a planning checklist to follow, and a supporting team around you - simply email president@lewispta.org to raise your hand for Lewis.
Lewis Dines Out
Save yourself some cooking this evening and support Lewis at Double Mountain on Woodstock! They will donate a portion of today’s sales to Lewis. This is a monthly opportunity, and we want to thank them for supporting our school community with such sustained commitment.
Event Information
We have a new Lewis Dines Out! to add to your green family calendar: Lewis Dines Out! @ Dairy Hill Ice Cream Sellwood on Wednesday, October 21, 1pm-9pm.
10% of all sales from that day are heading back to Lewis so celebrate the October early release day with a cone or two of Dairy Hill ice cream in Sellwood.

Join A District Listening Session on Right-Sizing

If you attend and choose to speak, we hope you will echo the PTA’s adopted position, celebrate Lewis, and speak from your heart about our school community.
