Stewart Elementary Parent Update
Week of September 30, 2024
Dear Stewart Families,
Here are three things to know about for the coming week.
- This week will be in person Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, October 2 and Thursday, October 3. Each of these days school will dismiss at 1:30 pm. Boo to the Flu will also be conducted each of the days.
- The year's Reflections theme is "Accepting Imperfection." All entries will receive a prize. Entries are due October 25. See more information below.
- We are going to be having a Halloween Costume Parade this year. It will be critical that every parent and guardian knows about the costume guidelines in order for this event to be respectful, responsible, safe, kind and understanding. Please refer to the document below. A copy will be provided to each student next week.
Every day is a great day to be a Star!
Sincerely,
Michelle Yoho and Laura Campbell

This gives our students the opportunity to reflect on the legacy of Dr. King.
The five categories are:

5th-6th grades
7th-9th grades
10th-12th grades
Cash awards for each category (from the district):

Contestants must memorize an excerpt between 1-3 minutes in length. The excerpt must be from a single speech of Dr. King and cannot be from multiple speeches.
Stewart school judging will take place Thursday, October 10, 2024 after school in the library. If a student is interested, please have them talk to their teacher or Mrs. Peterson.

Halloween Costume Parade
Please refer to the document below as you are choosing Halloween costumes for your children this year. The decision was made by the PTA, Community Council, Teachers and Staff to bring back Halloween parade, if we can get everyone to agree to the guidelines. If a student is wearing a costume that is not following the guidelines, they will be asked to change before participating.
Reflections
Experience the Magic
Each of you makes our school a wonderful place to be. Together we will continue to develop qualities that make our school a happy place for all. One way we will do this is through our LETTERING Challenge.
We will focus on one character trait each month. You will have the opportunity to complete the steps outlined in this booklet to help you develop that trait. Each student who completes all the steps for the month will earn that month’s letter, which will be printed on a star brag tag. We hope you will earn all the letters for the year – MAGIC!
There will also be a bonus letter, E for excellence. Students will complete their own Excellence Project to earn this letter. You will want to start this project by second term. Information about this project is on the following page so you can begin to think about ideas. Seeing everyone’s projects on display will be one of the highlights of our year!
We are so glad you are at Stewart Elementary. We know you will love EXPERIENCING THE MAGIC this year!M is for Manners
During the month of October we will be working on Attentiveness. Attentiveness is giving close and thoughtful attention to the things people say and do around us. Students will be practicing attentive listening in class.
Monthly Brag Tags
- We are asking our parents for extra support with attendance and daily home reading this year. Students will have an opportunity to earn brag tag in each of these areas each month, starting in September. Please help your students establish these habits now so they can be successful in earning their brag tags. They will experience the magic this year one day at a time and one page at a time!
- Attendance: Students can earn an attendance brag tag if they have 1 or less absences that month.
- Reading: Students can earn a reading brag tag if they read at home a minimum of 18 days during the month for at least 20 minutes each day (15 minutes for kindergarten). Students will report this to their teacher.
