Dear Murphy Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful spring break. It has been great to welcome our students back to campus and see how quickly they jumped right back into learning this past Monday. Classrooms across the district are filled with focus, curiosity, and hard work as students continue building on everything they have learned this year.

As we look ahead, we will begin state testing next week. This is an important time for our students to demonstrate their learning and the progress they have made throughout the year. If you have questions about your child’s testing schedule, please reach out to your school for specific dates and details.

We encourage families to help students feel prepared by prioritizing attendance, ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, and starting the day with a positive mindset. If your child is experiencing any testing jitters, please don’t hesitate to let your school know. Our teachers and staff are here to provide encouragement and support so every student can feel confident and ready.

This year, Murphy Elementary School District is proud to partner with Teach For America, bringing four passionate educators into our Jack L. Kuban classrooms who are making a meaningful impact on students every day.

Recently, the Teach For America team visited our campuses to capture something special—our students sharing what it has been like learning with their teachers this year. From exciting lessons to supportive classroom environments, students spoke about the ways their teachers encourage them to think, grow, and believe in themselves.

Their reflections are a powerful reminder that great teaching goes beyond the curriculum—it’s about connection, inspiration, and helping every child reach their potential. Watch the video below to hear directly from our students about the difference their teachers are making.

The day before spring break, our campuses celebrated Read Across America, a nationwide event dedicated to promoting literacy and the joy of reading.

At Sullivan, it was an honor to welcome State Representative Janelle Cavero, who joined the Valley of the Sun United Way to spend time with students and celebrate the power of books. Our classrooms were filled with excitement as guest readers shared stories and encouraged students to continue exploring the world through reading.

Today, Sullivan Elementary recognize the hard work, dedication, and achievements of our students at our school awards ceremony.

Assemblies like these are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate students who are demonstrating strong academics, positive behavior, and a commitment to learning. We are proud of every student who continues to show determination, kindness, and pride in their work. Congratulations to all of our award recipients!

Kindergarten enrollment for the upcoming school year is officially open, and we are excited to welcome our newest learners to the Murphy family.

Have questions about our kinder program? Review our frequently asked questions below:

• Who can enroll in kindergarten? Children who meet the state age requirement for kindergarten are eligible to enroll.
• Is kindergarten full-day? Yes! Murphy offers free full-day kindergarten for all students.
• What documents are required for enrollment? Families will need a birth certificate, immunization records, and proof of residency.
• Can I enroll online? Yes! Families can now complete enrollment online through our district website, or visit the school office if they prefer in-person support.

Thank you to our Kuban families for a great start to the week. Our classrooms have been full of energy as students continue building on the progress they’ve made this year.

Congratulations to Ms. Brooks’ class for being our Attendance Champions with an impressive 97% attendance rate. As a school, Kuban reached 90% attendance the week before Spring Break. Our goal is 95% attendance, and every day students are in school helps keep them connected to learning. Thank you to our families for continuing to make attendance a priority and supporting the success of our students.

We will celebrate our Students of the Month on March 26 at 7:00 A.M., and families are invited to join us as we recognize students who are demonstrating strong character and academic effort.

Please also mark your calendars for Kuban’s 40th Anniversary Spring Festival on April 29 from 4:00–7:00 P.M. We look forward to celebrating this special milestone with our school community.

Together, we are helping our Kuban kids be set up for success!

As we enter the final quarter of the school year, we have many exciting activities and learning opportunities ahead for our students. This time of year is full of growth as students continue strengthening the skills they have worked on all year long.

We also invite families with incoming kindergarten students to join us for our Kindergarten Registration event on March 25 from 1:00–3:00 P.M. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about our school and begin your child’s journey at Sullivan.
