Principal's Perspectives

My personal mantra is "Hard Work Pays Off." Students are reminded of this before heading to their classrooms each day. This is to encourage and remind students that the work they put it in will be rewarded both inside and out of the educational setting. This is a life skill I encourage students to carry with them each day.

February is one of the busiest, most important months of the school year. We get to celebrate Black History Month, Presidents' Day, Read Across America Day, 100th day of the school year, Valentines Day, PTO Trash Bag Fundraiser and then the end of the 3rd 9 Weeks. That is quite a bit for the shortest month of the year. Oh yea, I did not even mention that February also leads us right into our State Assessments.

I believe February maybe the most important month of the school year and we are really looking hard at things we can do to improve our student's attendance, if the students are not here, we cannot teach them. Every Friday we are giving a dollar to one 4th & one 5th grader who had perfect attendance for the week. We are also tracking our grade/building attendance percentage every week, with a chart posted in our auditorium. WE will be recognizing students & giving away prizes for 95% attendance for the 3rd 9 weeks. Lastly we are meeting at grade level/building level to brainstorm ideas to improve our attendance.

If you have ideas or suggestions for us to improve our attendance, please give me a call or email, to share you thoughts. I look forward to hearing from you,

Thank you for choosing to send your child to Guthridge School & Congratulations to the Chiefs on winning the Super Bowl!

Always a Viking

Our students are reminded that they are ALWAYS a Viking. At extracurricular activities, please remind your students to be kind and respectful as they represent our district. If students are unable to follow the "Viking Way" they will be asked to leave any extracurricular activity. The district expectation is for our elementary students to sit with their parents at our ball games. Thank you for your understanding and support.
