Principal's Message
Jog-a-Thon Tomorrow!
Good afternoon, Bethany Elementary Families,
Tomorrow is one of my favorite days of the school year. It's our annual Jog-a-Thon! The weather is going to be beautiful, so please come cheer on your child as they run their laps and feel the incredible community spirit.🔴🟠🟡🟢🔵🟣 Get ready for a Colorful Fun Run! 🟣🔵🟢🟡🟠🔴
We want to extend a BIG THANK YOU to our incredible Jog-a-Thon Chair, Emily Logue, and the entire committee and volunteers. The amount of work that goes into this event is truly a labor of love—from organizing t-shirts, decorations, and volunteers to handling all the communication and day-of logistics. We couldn't do it without you.
Your generous contributions through this fundraiser directly support the amazing enrichment opportunities that make Bethany Elementary so special. This includes funding for clubs, field trips, guest speakers, new library books, and special materials for our art and STEAM program. We can't wait to see you all tomorrow! 🏃🏻♂️🏃🏃🏻♀️ Don't forget to have your child wear sneakers and bring a water bottle.
With Gratitude,
Ms. Rosenquist
Interested in being our MORNING CROSSING GUARD?
Mrs. Gandhi has done a wonderful job keeping our students safe as they cross 174th Avenue each morning, but she is looking to reduce her hours slightly. We are hoping someone in our Bethany community would be interested in being paid for 30 minutes a day to do this important, yet fulfilling, job. If you are interested, apply using the link below or go to the Beaverton School District website.

There will be a check-in tent at the back of the school for everyone to check in at before going up to the track. Everyone will require a name tag of some sort identifying you as one of the following:
Volunteer: you will need to have previously signed up and been approved for a specific shift.
Registered in Raptor: you will receive a badge that tells our volunteers you have been approved in the system and can interact with staff, volunteers, and students.
Spectator: you will receive a badge that gives you access to our spectator tent area where you can watch and cheer but will not be able to interact with staff, volunteers, or students.
Thank you for helping us keep the event safe and fun for everyone.

Every Child Matters- Orange Shirt Day- Sept 30th
Content Area: 🦅 Tribal History Shared History
Each year on September 30th, First Nations, Metis, Inuit and Native American communities honor the children who fell victim to the residential, boarding school, mission school, and day school systems in both Canada and the United States.
Established in 2013, by First Nations community in Williams Lake, British Columbia elder Phyllis Webstad shared her story of how her grandmother bought her an orange shirt to wear to her first day at residential school.
Like her grandmother and mother before her, Phyllis was sent to a residential school. Immediately upon arriving, she and the other kids were stripped and forced into different clothing. She never again saw the orange shirt. Webstad later stated, “I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t give it back to me, it was mine! The color orange has always reminded me of that and how my feelings didn’t matter, how no one cared and how I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying, and no one cared.”
Over a decade later, Orange Shirt Day is a symbol of our losses as Native peoples, but also our resilience, a day to remember those who didn’t survive and those who are still with us today.
Since May 27th, 2021’s announcement from the Kamloops Residential school, thousands of grave sites have been identified – but the total number of children lost remains unknown. (NAYA Family Center)
At BSD this day is an opportunity to engage students in discussions about the importance of remembering and acknowledging the resilience of our students and their families. Our elementary and middle school students are exploring this topic each year through Tribal History Shared History lessons. While this may be an uncomfortable part of history for some to discuss, it is important for our students to be knowledgeable about it in order to be better prepared to be community members and leaders in the future.

September is Attendance Awareness Month
Governor Tina Kotek proclaimed September 2025 as Attendance Awareness Month in Oregon. Evidence shows students who regularly attend school in September are significantly more likely to continue attending regularly throughout the school year.
In BSD, we believe that attendance is an important life skill that helps students be successful in the classroom, graduate on time and be prepared for life beyond high school. The desire to attend school regularly starts with students feeling a sense of belonging. We want our classrooms, schools and district to be places where students develop meaningful relationships with staff and other students. But to forge those connections, students need to show up for school.

SAEBRS Screening
Dear Parent/Guardian:
As part of the Beaverton School District’s promise of Belong. Believe. Achieve. we aim to create an environment in which all students feel a deep sense of belonging to their school community — where they are accepted, supported and encouraged to be their authentic selves. As part of this commitment, our school will be administering the SAEBRS universal screener this school year. This tool is intended to build student awareness and help school staff know which students might need additional Social Emotional Learning (SEL) support. There are two kinds of SAEBRS assessments: student self-rating assessments and teacher rating assessments. Staff will administer the following assessments up to three times per year at the corresponding grade levels listed:
Kindergarten-12th grade: SAEBRS teacher rating tool
2nd-12th grade: mySAEBRS student self-rating tool
We believe this survey is a valuable tool because the SAEBRS screener can help identify risk factors in students. The tool also informs the selection of SEL lessons and other instructional practices in classrooms.
Other Important information:
1. Participation is voluntary and your student may decline to participate.
2. The mySAEBRS is done using a computer or tablet and takes students approximately 5 minutes to complete.
3. If you would like to see the exact questions asked on the survey you may contact the counselor at your student’s school.
4. Please contact Toni Rosenquist at Bethany Elementary (3305 NW 174th, Beaverton 97006) no later than October 3rd if you do not want your student to participate in the SAEBRS or mySABERS during the 2025-2026 school year.
More information can be found at: https://www.illuminateed.com/products/fastbridge/social-emotional-behavior-assessment/mysaebrs/
Thank you,
Toni Rosenquist
Want To Volunteer: Here is How!
We love having families involved at school, and volunteering is a great way to connect and support our students and staff. To help keep everyone safe, all volunteers need to complete an application through our district’s volunteer system, Raptor, and pass an Oregon criminal background check. Once you're approved, you'll get a confirmation email.
Update: If you were in the system last year, you are still approved.
Volunteer Information and Application
Thanks so much for your support—we couldn’t do it without you!
