Board Meetings
Board Meetings are the last Thursday of the Month.
The location for meetings for this year will be at Lynda's house or via Zoom.
If you have something that needs to be brought to the attention of the Board, or you would like to discuss the issue in person, please contact a Board Member.
Board Meetings are open to all but only board members can vote at the meetings.
Tidbits from the President
Tidbits from the President
The end of another year, at least in the guild’s calendar. I hope everyone enjoyed our time together, I did. And yes, I have one more year as your president. September is a great meeting. We will say good bye to some members on the board and hello to some new board members. It also means…
POT LUCK !!!!!
I love trying a little bit of everything. Since this meeting is mostly about eating and socializing, there will not be a ZOOM set up, unless there is a request for it.
We also have 2 tickets for the Parker County Quilt Show to give away (see show details later in the newsletter). We will ‘door prize’ these tickets, so let Shelley know at the membership table if you are interested (don’t want to give them away to someone who won’t be using them)
We are planning a picture show during the potluck, so please send us any pictures you have of any meetings, events, or show and tells. Please send them to the guild email (fortworthqg@gmail.com) with PICTURES in the subject section. We are looking for a volunteer to ‘combine’ these pictures for the meeting. Please reach out to me if you can help. (Lynda McGee, lyndamcgee@sbcglobal.net, 817-343-9124).

September – New Officer Installation and POTLUCK
We are excited to bring our new board to you this month as we move into our new year.
Join us as we welcome the new board and have some treats and goodies to eat!
Upcoming Programs
October brings Becky Goldsmith owner of Piece O’Cake shop. She will give a program titled “Quilting on a Quilt- The Secret Lives of Thread & Needles”.
November will be our Annual Quilt of Valor presentation where we will provide Quilts to some distinguished service personnel. It’s always a beautiful ceremony and you will enjoy the opportunity to share and learn about their experiences.
December seems far away, but our Annual Christmas party and potluck is always a great fun time for all—lots to look forward to and more news to come.
It’s been great to be your program VP this last year. This meeting I will turn this over to the very capable hands of Janet and Yvette! Thank you for your support of our guild this last year by participating in the programs and workshops! Till next time… Dorene signing off!

Raffle Quilt
LESS THAN 2 MONTHS !!!!!
The raffle quilt ‘season’ is drawing to an end. The drawing is at the November meeting. Keep selling those tickets. Remember to mention that our quilt won Honorable Mention Ribbon at the NTQF 2024. Get more from Shelley at the membership desk or return (if necessary).
PLEASE CONSIDER !!!
We also need members to volunteer to take the quilt somewhere and sell tickets. This can be another guild, a shop, a retreat. Anywhere you are willing to go. No one wants to do this alone but one meeting: one day, maybe with a friend???? Is there another guild you are a member of? Is there a guild you have wanted to visit? This is the way. Ask one of the board members if you don’t know how to contact someone to visit.
Thank you so much to Shelley Clauss who has agreed to handle the logistics for the quilt. Contact Shelley if you would like to take the quilt somewhere and sell tickets.

Hospitality
Congratulations to our new slate of Officers and Thank You to each one who agreed to serve on our board. We have our slate of officers now we need the members to step up and volunteer for the Committees that need to be filled. If we all do our part we will have a successful year.
At our September guild meeting we will have a covered dish dinner So make your favorite dish for all to enjoy. If you bring your own serving spoon, be sure to label it so we can identify it and not put it with the items from the church.

BEES
EMBROIDERY BEE
We have set our meeting time to 2 pm on the last Thursday of the month.
We continue to rotate our meeting site. New members are welcome.
This month, we will share items featuring pumpkins.
Contact Wanda Edmunds or Sarah Tutt for more information.
FRAYED KNOTS
We meet on the second Tuesday evening of the month at Jonquele's.
TIGHT KNOTS --
Start a BEE
One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!
General Guidelines
- Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
- A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
- Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
- Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
- Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.
Retreat 2025
Shelley has already begun to take reservations for the 2025 retreat, which will be April 3-6, 2025.
Bev Ramsey Fund
Bev Ramsey was a charter member of the guild, a past president, a teacher and a friend. We lost her way too early. The Bev Ramsey fund was set up to help those in need enjoy the things she loved very much, retreats and workshops.
Quilts of Valor
Four Veterans were awarded Quilts of Valor on Friday, September 6 th at the First Baptist Church in Cleburne. All were Army vets and served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
We currently have 19 veterans on our list to award. Several of them will receive their quilts at our November meeting, so we still have time to get more quilts ready.
We have two more ceremonies scheduled for September. One will be held for
three female Veterans at Valor Ranch on the 15th. The second ceremony will be
held at Hollis Threads on Sunday, Sept. 22nd at 3 pm.
Just a reminder: Recommended size for QOV’s 60”x80”
(minimum:55”x65”; maximum: 72”x90”)
Thanks again for all your hard work!

Lovies
If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.
Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Cook Children's. Cook's is always very grateful for the gifts.
JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items)
Summer Donations
We have been in a quilting slump for several months. With all the summer activities, I know we have all been busy. Fall is just around the corner and cooler weather is coming. I hope we will all be inspired to make something to donate. JPS is always happy to receive quilts from our guild.

NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Quilts
One of our community service projects is making NICU quilts for John Peter Smith Hospital. NICU quilts are 36” x 36” prewashed cotton quilts. These are placed on the incubators in the intensive care unit and become the property of the baby/baby’s family. As some of you may know, the Tight Knots Quilt Bee makes NICU quilts each year as one of their community service projects. Maybe your bee would consider doing the same.
JPS has requested other items for their patients:
Baby Items:
Receiving blankets and baby quilts – of all sizes
Layettes and Isolettes no smaller than 52”x56”
Cozy Cub Slipcover (tubular coverlet) See the link below for a sample of this item. 40 inches long
9 inches – circumference for small
11 inches – circumference for large

Help your Newsletter Editors !!!
After working with Smore for a while, we have run into limitations of the formatting available to us. It is easiest if the information is sent either as text, JPG, or PNG pictures. We can attach PDF documents to the newsletter, but they will appear as links and the reader must download them to their device to read them (easier if done from a laptop/desktop). DOC files that contain text only will be copied into the newsletter, but some of the formatting may be lost.
ALSO, WE NEED PICTURES!
