'Learning and Growing in the Love of God' 'Learning and Growing in the Love of God'

WELCOME

On behalf of all staff and pupils we'd like to welcome Victoria McLoughlin to our Federation. Victoria will be working in every class in both schools as Higher Level Teaching Assistant covering lessons and supporting learning. Many of you may recognise the name as Victoria has worked at Sledmere a few years ago. We are very happy to see her return and we hope you will join us in wishing her every success in our school family.

Learning

Our pupils have returned from the half-term with enthusiasm and energy. As we enter the last part of the school year we are looking forward to learning lots and lots. We are very proud of how creative and broad our curriculum is. We know it excites your children too from their very positive comments about the range of learning we offer. “I like finding out about big questions.” “I love learning about the past.”

Please take a look at our school website for further details about your child's topic. (Look under the Sledmere/ Class tab.) If you would like any further information please pop in or drop us a call. We'e be happy to help.

CLASS 4

On Monday 3rd June 2019, Class 4 did a science experiment; we wanted to find out more about centripetal forces. In groups of three, we began by filling a bucket (quarter full) with water. We all started out by swinging a normal bucket, with no water in, to get used to it. Then, we tried it with water! Starting swinging it side-by-side, we then increased the speed so that we could swing the water-filled bucket over our heads! The reason the water did not fall out was because the centripetal force was greater than the force of gravity when we were swinging it so fast. If we had swung the bucket slower, the water would have drenched us as the force of gravity would have been stronger. We had fun learning about forces and we also managed to get wet too!

LISTENING TO YOU

Thank you to everyone who took part in our survey of methods of communication. We really appreciate your time and effort.

Following on from this the results have been analysed and as you will appreciate there was a spread of different opinions about which methods are preferred. We want to cater for everyone, but it is important that we are efficient in the use of our time and that we endeavour to keep communication regular and clear.

Key dates - via the website and fortnightly newsletter, as well as text reminders near the date.

Visit information - via letters with reminders near the date.

Parent/ carer meetings - via letter with reminders near the date.

School improvement issues - via the website, newsletters and letter form (Ofsted/ Church Inspection etc.)

We hope this helps. Thank you therefore to those parents and carers who indicated that they would like to receive our fortnightly newsletters via email. Of course if you would like paper copies of our newsletters please let us know. We are happy to help.

CHURCH, GOVERNORS AND COMMUNITY

Our focus this half-term is on Responsibility. How do your children demonstrate responsibility in their daily lives at home? In their community?

We would like to invite older members of our community to share in the work of our oldest pupils. Please look out for details.

SUMMER WEATHER

It may be useful to send a sun hat and sun protection to school for your child when we have good weather. Thank you.

MUSIC

Mrs Rooke is no longer providing Music lessons in school. Regretfully, she is also unable to provide private guitar lessons in school. We'd like to thank Mrs Rooke for her enthusiasm, skill and energy in both schools. We are looking into alternative external providers which parents/ carers may be interested in taking up. This does not alter our end of year plans regarding Leavers' and Sledmere House.
