Oakhurst Weekly
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
One more time for the road. When I say Hooty, you say Hoo. Hooty…..Hooty……!
As the final bells ring and the classrooms empty out once more for the 2025-2026 school year, I find myself filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. We have officially reached the finish line for this school year, and what an incredible journey it has been!
From the first day of school in July to the student-led conferences presented this month, I have watched our students show up with curiosity, kindness, and an inspiring determination to do their best. Their achievements have been nothing short of remarkable.
None of this would be possible without each of you. To our parents and guardians, thank you for your unwavering partnership, your endless volunteer hours, and for trusting us with your children every day. To our phenomenal teachers and staff, thank you for your tireless dedication to making Oakhurst a safe, nurturing, and exciting place to learn.
To our departing second graders, we are so incredibly proud of you. As you move on to your next big adventure, take the lessons you learned here and continue to shine brightly. You will always be Owls.
I wish all of our families a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer. Disconnect from the screens, read some great books, and enjoy making memories together. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back in the fall!
FROM THE NURSE

OAKHURST AWARDED GOSA SSAS AWARD
Last week, the Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) awarded seven of CSD's nine schools with the Highest Performing Award and the Greatest Gains Award for high academic performance and high scores in closing achievement gaps.
In the highest-performing schools category, Glennwood and Westchester earned the gold award; Winnona Park, F.Ave, and Talley St. earned silver; and Oakhurst and BHMS earned bronze. Talley St. also earned the silver award in the greatest gains category.
GOSA awards these based on College and Career-Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) data from the three most recent school years. According to GOSA, the "Highest Performing Schools" earn a three-year average CCRPI content mastery score in the 93rd percentile or above statewide and an average CCRPI closing gaps score in the 75th percentile or above.
☀️ Summer Reading! ☀️
Prevent the "summer slide" by encouraging your child to read every day over the summer! The Oakhurst Summer Reading packet is filled with lots of summer reading trackers and activities to keep literacy flowing while we're away from school.
Included in the packet are links to local summer reading programs from Decatur Public Library, Little Shop of Stories, and Half Price Books, as well as online programs from the Atlanta Hawks, Book It!, and Reading is Fundamental.
Happy Summer Reading!
