Welcome Back Spring! Welcome Back Spring!

April greetings as we welcome back spring, sunshine, and (slightly) warmer temperatures. Surprising but April is our eighth month of school and marks the beginning of our fourth quarter. As you know, our STARs officially begin their spring break this Friday with an early 12:20pm dismissal. School will be closed the following week (April 6th through April 10th) before we return to campus on Monday, April 13th to our normal schedule.

As we return from the break, we will dive into a two week runup to state testing. To help further prepare our students and provide meaningful interventions, our students took part in the third/final diagnostics of the year over the past few days. We are in the process of analyzing class and student specific data, and will apply our learning to needed interventions across the remainder of this school year. Please take a moment to read through the below state testing section for more information including dates, exams, and helpful hints.

Lastly, we wish you and your family a wonderful spring and upcoming break. If you need anything across the coming weeks, please feel free to reach out. In the meantime, enjoy the return of sunshine, flowers, and the signs of spring around us. Thank you for your time and for being part of our North community.

With Gratitude,

Holly, Drew, & Tyler

This month, we celebrate Arab American Heritage Month and honor the cultures, customs, and contributions of the four million Americans who trace their family roots to an Arab country. Across this month, our school will utilize both in-class and school-wide opportunities to enhance our knowledge and appreciation of Arab American heritage. This year's theme theme is Many Voices - One Community reflects ," reflects the diverse identities within the Arab American community while celebrating shared values. This follows previous themes focusing on resilience, diversity, and honoring the past while inspiring the future.

In addition to Arab American Heritage Month, there are several meaningful celebrations and recognitions that occur across this month of April including Autism Acceptance Month (link), School Library Month (and our North Librarian, Mrs. Kelly) (link), Poetry Month (link), National Volunteer month (link), and April as the Month of the Military Child (link).

Our class selection process for the forthcoming 2026/27 school year has progressed well and as of now, nearly all of our North students have fulfilled their scheduling requests. This includes our incoming fifth (almost sixth) graders and exiting eighth (almost nineth) graders. Our next steps involve the design and creation of our master schedule which, when complete, will inform our 2026/27 class schedules for students. These class schedules will be finalized and avaliable in late summer including teachers and classrooms.

This closes our class registration process for returning students, for the coming school year. New and transferring students will still be required to select classes as they enroll. For additional class selection information, our 2026/27 course catalog, and/or counseling, please see our North Counseling webpage or reach out to us at your convenience.

Reminder: Fieldtrips & Needed Medications Reminder: Fieldtrips & Needed Medications

As we prepare for the end of this school year and an increase in fieldtrips, please remember that Washington state law and Everett Public Schools’ policy mandate that all students with a life threatening condition (asthma, anaphylaxis, seizure disorder, cardiac condition, or diabetes), must have a medical order, required medication, and a health plan in place prior to their attendance in any school activities.

If your child is scheduled for an upcoming trip and has a medical order, required medication, and/or health plan, please ensure that they will have all needed medications for this trip, prior to the trip. Should you have any questions in this regard, please know that we would be happy to help and/or answer any questions - (425) 385-4800.

March Matters Champions! March Matters Champions!

Across the month of March, we challenged our students to attend every possible school day, aiming for a 95% attendance rate. Many of our students achieved that rate (and above) and we are certainly proud of their efforts (and yours)! Our grade level v. grade level competition, March Matters, awarded points to grade levels based on the percentage of their students that were in attendance on a given day. This competition spanned the month of March and day-by-day, grade levels earned collective points.

Our competition stretched to the final day of the month with one point separating sixth and seventh grade as we entered last Tuesday, March 31st. In the end, our sixth graders were victorious besting our seventh grade by a score of 83 to 81. Overall, our sixth grade as a whole attended school in March at a 90% rate so they are certainly deserving of the title and honors.

Sixth graders will design their own STAR Party to take place later this month. Whether your child is in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade, if they attended school at a 90% or above rate this past month, please know that we are certainly grateful. Their consistency and dedication will certainly pay off this spring and beyond.

Our annual parent/family survey is live and avaliable here and/or through our North website. If you have already participated in this annual survey, thank you - your time and partnership is certainly appreciated! If you have not had an opportunity yet, please know that we will value feedback that you are able to provide.

This survey is one of three that all Everett schools utilize each spring, including both a student and staff survey. This summer, we work to study the feedback gained through these surveys as we work to draft priorities for the coming year. Please note that this year's surveys closes this coming Friday, April 3rd.

After we return from break, we will spend a few short weeks before we begin our state assessments. These assessments include the Smarter Balanced English Language Arts exam, the Smarter Balanced Math exam, and for eighth graders, the WCAS Science exam. As noted below, testing will span four weeks, typically focusing on one exam per week. testing occurs in the morning on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and (if needed) Thursdays. We reserve Mondays and Fridays for make-up exams. Please see the below schedule for specific tests and anticipated dates.

Important State Testing Dates:

  • 4/28 + 4/29: WCAS/Science Test (8th grade only)
  • 5/5 - 5/7: English Language Arts (ELA) Computer Adaptive Test
  • 5/12 - 5/14: Math Computer Adaptive Test
  • 5/19 - 5/21: English Language Arts (ELA) Performance Task + Math Performance Task

As we progress toward these exams, you will notice an increase in related reminders. Specifically, students perform far better when they are rested, fed, and ready. Additionally, we are continuing to ask that students Chromebooks be charged at night so that they are ready to function the following day. With two loaner chargers in each classroom, there is little capacity to support students with expired Chromebooks. As part of their preparation efforts for the coming school day, we ask each student to plug-in and charge their Chromebook nightly.
