5th Grade Principal Challenge

5th Grade PrincipalChallenge

5th Grade Celebration Principal Challenge - DUE TUESDAY, MAY 26TH BY 4:00 PM

Selected Projects will be featured during the 5th Grade Celebration, Wednesday, June 3rd!

PROJECT DUE TO DR. DiPONIO NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, MAY 26th at 4:00 PM!

Principal Challenge Project: Create a 2-minute (or less) heartfelt script reflecting on a memorable experience or an important lesson learned at Costello. Highlight one or more of the following cardinal traits: respect, responsibility, empathy, integrity, and perseverance. Your script should show how learning these traits at Costello has helped you and will continue to help you succeed in life.

This challenge is an ideal opportunity to put your writing skills together to successfully produce this project!

Instructions:

Choose a Memory:

Think about your time at Costello. Select a specific memory that stands out to you. This could be a moment with friends, a classroom activity, a school project, an event, or a lesson that taught you something valuable. Consider including a staff member from any grade level who influenced you.

Identify the Trait(s):

Reflect on how this memory relates to one or more of the cardinal traits: respect, responsibility (accepting ownership for a mistake), empathy, integrity, and perseverance.

Consider how learning these traits at Costello has impacted you and how they will help you in the future.

Write Your Script:

Start with a brief introduction of yourself, “Hi I am ________a 5th grader in Ms. Eldridge’s class...

Describe the memory in a way that others can visualize and feel the moment.

Explain how this memory taught you about the cardinal trait(s).

In your conclusion share how this lesson will help you in the future.

Be Personal and Heartfelt:

Make your script personal and genuine. Share your feelings and thoughts honestly.

Aim to connect emotionally with your audience – your classmates, teachers, and parents.

Keep It Concise:

Your script should be no longer than 2 minutes when read aloud.

Aim for clear, concise, and impactful storytelling.

Practice and Record:

You can produce as a slideshow, an I-movie, using Clips, etc.

Practice reading your script aloud several times. Are you confident? If not, keep practicing. Your ability to hold the attention of the audience is one of the top reasons why your project/speech will be chosen.

Record a video of yourself delivering the script. Speak clearly and confidently. Volume can be an issue, please ensure that your video is loud enough and that there is no background noise. Create an engaging presentation, avoid having the speaker be the sole visual focus throughout the entire video. Instead, create a dynamic slideshow or video that matches your script with pictures/video. For instance, if you mention Ms. Myre in your script, include a picture of her. Begin with a picture of yourself in the introduction. I recommend drafting your script or outline first, and then selecting images that align with the content.

If you prefer to read your script live on stage during the 5th Grade Celebration, while your slideshow/video is playing, this is also an option. Again, your ability to be confident and speak clearly using a microphone, in front of a crowd is critical.

Creative Ways to Express/Tell Your Story:

Think outside the box, perhaps you want to create a piece of artwork and tell your story through this. Maybe you want to write a song to tell the story. All ideas are welcome! This content of this project should be created by you, not older siblings or parents. It is absolutely okay to get help with the recording.

Selection Criteria:

Scripts will be evaluated on thoughtfulness, clarity, emotional impact, and how well they reflect the cardinal traits.

**Not all scripts will be selected, so put forth your best effort to create a memorable and meaningful story.**

Submission:

Submit your written script and video recording by Tuesday, May 26th. Recordings will be air dropped to me. If you are done earlier, you can submit it when completed.

Example Script: (this script would be read while the video/slide show is playing).

Introduction:

Hi, my name is ________________ I am in _____________________ class and I have been at Costello since (kindergarten, third grade). Someday I would like to (future dream). Today I would like to share a special memory from my time at Costello Elementary.

The Memory:

One day in fourth grade, our class was assigned a group project on environmental conservation. I remember feeling nervous because I wasn't sure how we would all work together. Our group decided to create a poster and present it to the class. At first, we had different ideas and couldn't agree on anything.

The Lesson....

But then, our teacher, Mrs. Mrs. Oliver, reminded us about respect and responsibility. She encouraged us to listen to each other's ideas and divide the tasks fairly. I took on the role of coordinating our efforts and making sure everyone had a chance to contribute. Through this project, I learned the importance of respecting others' opinions and taking responsibility for my part.

Reflection:

This experience taught me about the power of teamwork and respect. I realized that by listening and being responsible, we could achieve great things together. These lessons have stayed with me and will help me succeed in middle school and beyond.

Conclusion:

Thank you, Costello, for teaching me the values of respect and responsibility. These traits will guide me as I continue to grow and face new challenges.

Have fun with this project!! Your parents, teachers and I truly look forward to hearing your stories and celebrating the amazing lessons you've learned at Costello Elementary!

Example... Example...

I know examples can be helpful, but they can also make you think -this is the only way it can be done, please do not think this. We are looking for creativity, a way for you to present your own style. All of your questions can be answered by rereading this project description.
