Friday Updates
October 2, 2026
From the Principals Desk
Dear SHS Families,
October is a pretty busy month around the school. So, as we began the month earlier this week, I’d like to review what the following weeks have in store for us.
Next week, the Ottawa Fire Department will visit on Wednesday, October 7th, as part of Fire Safety Month. We thank our local firefighters for all they do for our community and for teaching our students about how to be safe in emergencies. Thursday is our annual Guardian Angel Mass. Kindergarteners will gather in front of the school, and Church to recite the Guardian Angel Prayer they have been practicing so hard. Come see the fruits of their work and witness some of our youngest engage in communal prayer. It is such a blessing to see.
End of the Quarter is Friday, October 9th. That means that grade cards will be sent home on Tuesday, October 13th, and we will have Honor Roll announcements for our 3rd-6th graders at Morning Opening on Wednesday, October 14th.
Conferences will be on October 21st & 22nd. Secure your conference time on the SignUpGenius link to meet with your student’s teacher. We ask that every family meet with their student’s teacher in the fall.
Finally, we will have our Halloween celebration on Friday, October 30th. In lieu of classroom parties this year, students will participate in our costume parade, then transition straight into Trunk or Treat in the school parking lot. More details soon to come. With spooky season in mind, however, I would like to review our guidelines for costumes. Especially with ages in the building ranging from 3 to 12. The atmosphere that we will have on that day is fun and festive, not gruesome or scary.
No make-up of any kind
Any costume that’s purpose is to frighten or instill fear is not allowed
Masks are discouraged. They may be worn, however, if they are deemed acceptable by the classroom teacher.
Props such as fake knives, swords, guns, or any other object that promotes violence are not allowed. Things such as wands and shields may be used at the discretion of the homeroom teacher.
Fake blood of any sort is not allowed
Costumes that would interfere with a student’s ability to walk, move, or sit appropriately in the classroom are not allowed (inflatable suits, etc.)
With Faith & Hope,
Patrick (P.J.) Greer

A NOTE FROM PTO
Good morning SHS Fam. We have a really great opportunity for an additional PTO Fundraiser to run concessions at the Corn Pickers of the Past 2026. We are in need of volunteers to help work on 10/10/26. We will serve coffee and cinnamon rolls for breakfast and a pulled pork lunch special.
If you're unable to physically be there to help work the concession stand, we are also asking for parents to donate a fresh baked dessert for us to sell. You can coordinate drop off of dessert at school pick up with PTO on Friday 10/9.
Please see more details and sign up for a time slot or desserts using this link!
