Superintendent's Update: June 2026 Superintendent's Update: June 2026

Dear NAPS Community,

As another school year comes to a close, I would like to thank our students, families, staff, School Committee and community members for their partnership and support throughout the year.

This year brought both challenges and opportunities. Together, we continued the important work of supporting students and building a strong foundation for the future. Our district theme, "Rooted in Purpose, Growing in Practice" reflects much of what we experienced together. We remained grounded in our commitment to students while continuing to learn, improve and grow as a school community.

Throughout the year, I had the opportunity to visit classrooms, attend concerts, athletic competitions, performances, graduations and community events. Time and again, I was reminded of the incredible talent and perseverance of our students and the dedication of the adults who support them. I am proud of all we have accomplished together and excited about the future as we begin implementing our new five-year strategic plan.

As summer begins, I encourage families to embrace the many opportunities for learning that exist outside of school. Some of the most meaningful learning happens through everyday experiences.

When you have the opportunity, read together and let your children see you reading. Visit the library. Explore a museum, historical site or nature trail. Take advantage of all that the Merrimack Valley and Massachusetts has to offer. Ask questions, wonder together and talk about what you see.

For our younger learners, summer is a wonderful time to build independence. Let children carry their own backpack, unpack their lunch, open their own snacks or help plan a family outing. These small moments build confidence and self-reliance. For older students, summer jobs, volunteer opportunities, reading for pleasure, learning a new skill or simply taking on greater responsibilities at home can provide valuable life lessons.

And perhaps most importantly, give children time to play, imagine, create and/or to even be bored. Not every moment needs to be scheduled or spent on a screen. Some of the best learning happens when children are given the space to explore their own interests and solve problems. Whether it is running a lemonade stand, helping in the garden, cooking a meal, building a fort or enjoying a day at the beach, everyday experiences can become lasting memories.

Thank you for the trust you place in our schools and for the partnership we share in supporting your children. On behalf of the entire North Andover Public Schools community, I wish you a safe, restful and joyful summer.

Warmly,

Pam Lathrop
Superintendent

Hello NAPS Community,

I am excited to be the Chair of your School Committee for the coming academic year! We have a lot to celebrate as we wrap up the 2025-26 school year – a balanced budget, vastly improved and transparent financial reporting, progress in teaching and learning, well documented school improvement plans, progress on a new Strategic Plan that should be completed in the fall.

We saw strong community support for the schools as demonstrated at Town Meeting in May that included the approval of the Kittredge Elementary School building project and both the Capital and Operating budgets for next year. We had another successful graduation and SOS party for our seniors as we sent them on their way.

I look forward to continuing this work with our great Superintendent and all of our talented and dedicated staff as we head into next year. We’ll be completing the strategic plan, beginning site work for the new Kittredge Elementary School, welcoming new Principals at the ABECC and Sargent, as well as all the regular (but certainly not ordinary!) district activities that take place. That work will begin over the summer and accelerate as the new school year begins.

On behalf of the Committee, I want to thank all of you for your continued interest in and support of our public schools. Have a restful, peaceful summer and get your students ready and excited to charge into the new school year in the fall.

Sincerely,

Dave Brown

Chair, North Andover School Committee

A Busy Summer! A Busy Summer!

“Plant a Seed, Read” this summer at Stevens Memorial Library with activities and events for

all ages, families and individuals. It all starts with the Summer at the Stevens 2026 Block Party on June 24th. Join us from 4-7pm for popsicles and cake, balloon twisting, games, and "touch-a-truck" with the North Andover Fire, Public Works and the North Andover Police Departments. You may sign up for Summer Reading at the same time.

Join us again every week from July 6 th through August 14 th at the Library or around Town for great things to do. All Stevens Memorial Library events are free; everyone is welcome. Some events are drop-in and some request registration; each event on the Library’s calendar will say if registration is needed.

Look for the Summer at the Stevens icon on the Library’s website main page to find events, school summer reading lists, bingo sheets, book recommendations, and how to earn prizes. Stevens’ Summer 2026 brochures are sent home in the elementary schools and middle school backpacks. Brochures and other information also may be downloaded and printed from the website. Some translations will also be online.

Tally your reading starting June 24 th to earn toward prizes. Read for Beads is back for elementary ages; Rubber duckies rewards for the very young to whom you read; and Drawing prizes for teens and adults.

Have you heard the term “summer slide?” This is a concern that reading ability and other academic skills can decline during the summer when school is out. Studies show that children who read during the summer months have stronger reading and comprehension skills when they return to school in the fall. Reading in the summer helps prepare for school in September. Here are some ways you can help grow as a reader:

  • Encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes a day.
  • Let your child make their own selections. Show an interest in what they read: talk about
  • what and why they chose something.
  • Read yourself to show you enjoy and value reading, too.
  • Read anything and everything: books, magazines, newspapers, comic book, both printed
  • books and e-books.
  • Listening counts: enjoy audiobooks, e-audiobooks, read-along-books.

Remember your library card also gives you access to thousands of materials online 24x7 using

OverDrive, Tumblebooks, and the many articles in the E-Library even when the Library is

closed.

Summer hours are: Monday through Thursday 10am – 9pm, Friday 10am – 6pm.

Closed Saturdays and Sundays. Weekend museum passes should be picked up by Friday. If you don’t find an answer to your question, email or call the Library so we can help. Staff will respond when available.

A very big thanks to the Friends of the Stevens Memorial Library and the Trustees of the Stevens

Memorial Library for supporting Summer at the Stevens. Thanks to the Boston Bruins, the MA.

Board of Library Commissioners, and the MA. Library System for funding the Massachusetts Statewide Summer Library Program iRead Reading Programs®.

SUN Bucks, the federal food benefit program once known as Summer EBT, is returning for summer 2026. SUN Bucks provides a $120 lump-sum summer benefit per school-aged child for income-eligible families. The program is administered by the state Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) in partnership with DESE and with assistance from schools.

SUN Bucks income eligibility standards are the same as those for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). As such, all enrolled students identified as meeting the income eligibility standards for free or reduced-price lunch during school year 2025-26, either through an NSLP household paper application or direct certification, are automatically eligible for SUN Bucks. Students identified as homeless, migrant, runaway or participating in Head Start are also automatically eligible. Students who do not meet the aforementioned criteria can apply for SUN Bucks benefits through DTA by visiting www.DTAConnect.com.

DTA has created a flyer to help districts share this information with families, and more information is available on the SUN Bucks website, including application materials in six languages.
