Jag Wire
Week 11: October 26th-30th
A Message from the Principal
It's a great week to be Jag! This week, we’re celebrating Red Ribbon Week and reminding our students that they have the power to make healthy choices, support their friends, and make a positive impact. We’re proud to stand together as a school community and encourage our Jags to make choices that help them build a bright future!
Last week, we were excited to welcome several Fort Bend ISD Board Members to campus and they had the opportunity to see our Leadership & Civic Engagement students in action as they wrapped up their donation drive supporting the Fort Bend Women’s Center and Lunches for Love. We are so proud of our Jags for finding ways to make a difference in our community!
We also have a fun opportunity coming up this Friday, October 30! Join us for our Parry’s Spirit Day and a Pizza Party at Lunch! Families can order pizza for their student to enjoy at lunch or join your Jag for lunch that day. We’ll have games and special trivia during lunches and hope you’ll join us for this fun afternoon to support our SMS PTO. Order pizza here!
Our Fine Arts programs were also on full display this weekend! Our Band and Orchestra students competed in Region auditions, and our Theatre Department put on an incredible performance Friday night as they continue preparing for UIL One Act Play. We’re excited to see several of our Fine Arts programs recognized at this week’s FBISD Board Meeting on Monday, October 26.
The Fall Dance is almost here, and we can’t wait for our students to wrap up the week with an evening of music, dancing, and time with friends. It’s always exciting to see our Jags come together and make great memories!
And finally, we have some BIG news to celebrate! Sartartia Middle School has been named a U.S. News & World Report Best School in Texas, alongside six other FBISD schools. This recognition highlights the dedication of our teachers, hard work from our students, and our entire community’s commitment to excellence. Way to go, Jags!
Your Proud Principal,
Cholly Oglesby

Tip of the Week
Did you know that completing the Free & Reduced-Price Meal Application helps not only your family but also our entire school community?
Even if you don’t think your household will qualify, we encourage all families to apply. Submitting an application can make your child eligible for additional benefits and helps our schools receive important funding that supports students across Fort Bend ISD.
Benefits of completing the application may include:
- Reduced fees for Extended Learning programs, Career & Technical Education (CTE) courses, and athletics
- Discounts on exams, technology programs, and other school activities
- Increased district funding for classrooms, student programs, and campus resources
Every application makes a difference — whether or not your family qualifies for meal benefits. Apply today at www.schoolcafe.com/fbisd
To apply, parents will need to have the following information:
- Names of all household members
- Amount, frequency and source of current income for each household member
- Last four digits of the parent’s or guardian’s social security number
- Signature of an adult household member attesting that the information provided is correct
Families may apply at any time during the school year, should their household circumstances change, including the loss of a job, a decrease in household income or an increase in household size.
Thank you for helping support our students and schools by taking a few minutes to complete the Free & Reduced-Price Meal Application this year!
Events & Opportunities
Fall Dance
We’re so excited for our Fall Dance this Friday, October 30th and we know our students are ready for an evening full of music, games, snacks, and fun! Here’s what you need to know:
- Tickets: The last chance to buy tickets is Friday,10/30, during lunch. Students must have a wristband to enter. Lost or broken wristband? No worries—students can check in at the table when they arrive (however it is much quicker if they arrive with their wristband on).
- Time & Drop-Off: The dance is from 6:30–8:30 PM, with entry starting at 6:30pm through the cafeteria doors. Parents, please drop students off at the bus ramp—it keeps everyone safe and the line moving smoothly.
- Activities: Students can dance in the cafeteria, play games in the gym, take photos in the photo booth, hang out and purchase snacks like pizza, chips, popcorn, candy, and drinks ($1–$2 each). We suggest students bring small bills or coins.
- Dismissal: Students will be dismissed from the cafeteria at 8:30pm. Parents, please wait in line for pick-up. If you prefer to park in the parking lot, please walk across the bus ramp using the crosswalk and follow directions from police officers and staff—safety first!
- Other Notes: Students who leave early cannot re-enter and only approved parent volunteers with cleared background checks may attend or help at the dance.
It’s going to be a super fun evening, full of laughter, dancing, and school spirit. We can’t wait to see all our students enjoying themselves!
Information & Updates
PSAT 8/9 Overview
FBISD 8th grade students will take the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The PSAT 8/9 measures the reading, writing and language, and math skills students need to be ready for college and career.
Through a partnership between Khan Academy and the College Board, full-length practice tests and thousands of practice questions are available at www.satpractice.org. By linking their Khan Academy account with their College Board account, students can access free, personalized practice recommendations based on previous years’ test results that are tailored to their own strengths, weaknesses, and progress. The Official SAT Practice can be accessed from any computer with Internet access and includes practice questions that were written in collaboration with the same developers who created the SAT and PSAT.
We hope you find the Official SAT® Practice on Khan Academy helpful in preparing for this test!
PSAT Test Breakdown
The PSAT/NMSQT includes 2 hours and 15 minutes of actual testing time and 10 minutes of breaks. There will be tests in reading, math, writing, and language. Students will not need to bring a calculator, as the College Board has integrated a calculator into the new online format.Students or parents with questions about the tests are encouraged to contact their school counselor for more details.
