RANDOM AFFIRMATION
Worth the read! Royse City High School Principal Brooke McMaster received a letter of affirmation from a retired educator regarding his exchange with current students. Parts read as follows:e received a letter of affirmation from a retired educator regarding his exchange with current students. Parts read as follows:
I wish to bring to your attention an incident that happened at Whataburger this past Friday night. I had some business to attend to in Royse City and stopped in at the Whataburger after 8 pm. I was seated, eating, when a group of high school students started to filter in. They placed their order and sat down at a communal table to wait on their orders. There were about a dozen boys and girls enjoying each other's company. It just so happened that their table was next to mine. Their arrival of their orders coincided with my finishing. I stood up and in preparation for leaving I stacked everything on my tray. That included my medium sized drink cup that I had just refilled. As I picked up the tray the drink decided that it was not going to cooperate and that the floor was a better location for it. It wound up upside down and flooded the floor under my table. I had a few choice words I said to myself under my breath and before I could do much more one of the young ladies noticed my problem. She said something to the table and before I knew it, the lot of them were getting up and grabbing handfuls of napkins to clean the mess up. I was more than a little embarrassed and moved out of the way to let them frantically clean up. One of them went to the kitchen and asked an employee for a mop. (The Whataburger staff were busy taking care of customers and were not yet aware of the problem.) I apologized to the students and thanked them. They reassured me that they were just a bunch of kids who enjoyed being helpful. They asked if I was alright and if I needed any help. I told them that I was okay and ascertained that they were students from Royse City High School. I thanked them again. When I left, they were still cleaning up. I was a public-school educator for over thirty years. I taught every grade level from 5th grade to 12th. I have taught hundreds and hundreds of kids and the ones who would do what these young people did are few. It showed me that Royse City knows how to raise their kids.”
