While we returned to a short week after the May long weekend, it was a jam-packed one to say the least! Our Pacers returned from their Water Travel trip in high spirits and evidence of sun filled days on their faces - check out the pictures taken by our trip supervisors below! Did you know that participating students earned 10 credits towards their high school diploma through their participation? Our upcoming stage production Clue has officially started ticket sales for the start of June - please see the poster below for more information. Our Athletic Awards Banquet is coming up as well, with tickets available at the office. Our PCHS Track & Field team had an impressive showing at Zones - you can see the results breakdown in our Pacer Pursuits section, in addition to a Pacer being featured at the May Board Meeting. It is so incredible how truly talented our Pacers are and we love having the opportunity to highlight them! Reminder, our next School Council Meeting is taking place tomorrow, Monday May 25th starting at 630pm - parents/guardians are welcome!!

Candid Picture of Mr. Visser

This past Thursday, our Grade 9's wrote their first PAT of exam season, and although there were a few technical difficulties, it overall went well. A very important reminder to all students, especially our grade 9's, is that classes are continuing after your exam is complete. Students that are using additional time in their exam will be supported with their missed learning when they return to class, but it is expected that students are attending their classes once they finish. Instruction is still ongoing and we want to make sure that our students have the opportunity to prepare the best they can for their final exams.

Please take note of when your Pacer has exams to wrap up the year. It is important to note that students are required to attend their scheduled exams and all regular classes until exam week. Best exam preparation practice includes starting early with review and connecting with your teachers if you need any additional help preparing for your exams. Don't forget, we run Study Hall every day at Lunch (with either Andersen or Bencz, depending on the day)!

The weather was beyond beautiful this weekend, and while I did not attend, my family went to the rodeo both Friday and Saturday night. My son and nephews even participated in a few activities! Earlier this week, my sister sent me some pictures of my ever growing niece, and I had to share my favorite!

Each month the GYPSD Board of Trustees has their regular Board Meeting and invites schools to showcase some of their incredible programming and student talents in each community. Last Wednesday, Parkland had the opportunity to highlight our incredibly Culinary Arts program, featuring one of our students who has taken her passion for baking outside of the classroom and started her own business! Kally B. has been involved in our Foods and Culinary Arts program since she started at PCHS in Grade 9, and how has her own business, K-Cooks Baking, that features Crumbl-style cookies in unique flavors that she sells at the weekly Edson Farmers Market. Kally did a fantastic job presenting to the Board of Trustees (one of whom was her teacher in elementary school), GYPSD Superintendent Scobie, as well as the whole GYPSD Education Services Center team. Myself, Assistant Principal Downing, and our Culinary Arts teacher Mr. Arsenault attended in support of Kally and helped her serve a sampling of her delicious cookies to the Trustees.

To quote her presentation, Kally said that "I am very thankful that our school offers programs like Culinary Arts because classes like this can truly impact students’ lives and futures. Culinary helped me grow in confidence, learn important life skills, and discover a passion that inspired me to start my own business, K Cooks Baking. This class became more than just an option for me — it gave me a creative outlet, taught me responsibility and teamwork, and helped me realize what I want to do, continue pursuing in the future." Talk about embodying Parkland's slogan of Your Future, Your Plan!

Fantastic work Kally!
