Parents/Guardians,

It is hard to believe that we are only a few days away from the half way mark of the school year (Dec 19)! I wanted to remind everyone about the importance of attendance at school. Every day a student misses a day of school they will be missing new content and intervention/extension lessons. Missing multiple unexcused days throughout the year will impact their grades, and more importantly their learning. The state requires us to hold Attendance Meetings and Attendance Intervention Plans for any student who becomes chronically absent.

To avoid having your child be put on an Attendance Intervention Plan for Unexcused Absences, here are a few tips..

  • Parent Notes - Use up to 5 Parents Notes for absences
  • Turn in Medical Notes (Email them to kterbeek@asd2.org)
  • Be sure your child is at school unless they have a fever or vomiting.

Attendance Meetings Required

  • 3 Unexcused Days in a row
  • Total of 5 Unexcused Days during the school year
  • 10 Absences (Excused and/or Unexcused Absences)

If a student has been placed on an Attendance Intervention Plan and continues to miss school, the parent/guardian will be turned over to Anderson County Board of Education.

Thank you for by doing your part in making sure that your child's school attendance is a priority! :)

If you have more specific questions about your child's attendance, feel free to call us at the school.

BES sends home a paper copy of quarterly Progress Reports and Report Cards to every student. Here are two ways to keep up with your child's grades throughout the school year...

  1. Weekly Progress Email - You should be receiving a weekly email with your child's progress report. If you are not, please call the office to get your email address updated in our system.
  2. Parent Portal App - Download the PowerSchool App today to receive grade notifications!
    • Parents who've created an account, but unable to login should contact the PowerSchool Helpdesk. Provide your name, your child's name, and a contact phone number where you can be reached when emailing.

Attendance Reminders Attendance Reminders

Tardy - To be considered on time, the child must be sitting in their classroom at 7:45am. At 7:45am, our front door locks. The parent/guardian/driver will be expected to park their car and sign their child in at this point. Officer Hodges, our School Resource Officer, will be there to remind whoever is dropping off your child. Our instruction begins at 7:45am, so being late for school results in loss of instruction.

Early Dismissal - Students will not be allowed to be dismissed between 2:00-2:30pm for Early Dismissal. Please plan to pick your child up before then, if you have a doctor's appointment. Repeated Early Dismissals could result in an Attendance Plan.

Absences - It is imperative that your child is at school. We have a new system, and will be monitoring attendance very closely. You are allowed to turn in up to 5 Parent Notes to cover an unexcused absence. An example of a Parent Note would be a low grade fever, throwing up, etc. If you take your child to the doctor, please be sure to turn in the medical note. A student is considered truant with 3 consecutive absences or 5 unlawful absences. At this point, an Attendance Meeting will be scheduled with the Parent/Guardian and administration to create an Attendance Plan. Continued truancy will result in turning the plan over to the Anderson County Board.
