This term, we have taken an important step forward in strengthening a consistent, whole-school approach to student wellbeing and behaviour through the introduction of our Berry Street non-negotiables.

You may hear your children talking about these at home, or notice some small but meaningful changes in routines across the school. These are not new programs or additional expectations, but a commitment to doing a few key things really well, every day, in every classroom.

Our focus is on creating calm, predictable, and consistent learning environments. When students know what to expect, feel safe, and understand routines, they are better able to regulate, engage and learn.

Across the school, all classes are now consistently implementing:

  • A daily Welcome Circle to begin the day with connection and a clear start
  • Purposeful brain breaks to support regulation and focus
  • Slow, structured transitions between learning activities
  • Clear entrance and exit routines for every lesson
  • Consistent expectations for lining up and moving around the school

These practices may seem simple, but when they are applied consistently across every classroom, they make a significant difference. Students experience the same expectations regardless of year level, teacher or setting, which builds confidence and reduces uncertainty.

You may also notice posters in classrooms and around the school. These provide visual reminders for students and support us in reinforcing these shared expectations.

This work is grounded in the Berry Street Education Model, which supports schools to build strong relationships, promote student wellbeing, and create environments where all students can thrive.

I would like to thank our staff for the way they have embraced this work and for their commitment to building a calm, supportive and consistent learning environment for every child at Queen of Apostles.

As always, we value the partnership we have with families. Consistent messaging between home and school plays an important role in supporting our students to succeed.

As always, I wish you all green lights.

Jesse Yock

Principal

School Uniforms School Uniforms

As we move into Term 2, a reminder to all families regarding the transition from summer to winter uniform.

In line with our Uniform Policy, a short changeover period is provided at the beginning of each season, allowing students to wear either full summer or full winter uniform during this time, but not a combination of the two.

We will allow a three-week grace period for this transition, with the expectation that all students are in full winter uniform from the beginning of Week 4.

We thank families for your support in ensuring students are well presented, take pride in their appearance, and wear the correct uniform each day as a sign of belonging to our Queen of Apostles community.

Volunteers Volunteers

The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. Parents who wish to assist teachers on excursions will need to be on this list. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.

Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.
