PQ Tuesday Newsday
November 12, 2025
Principal Message
Dear PQ Families,
We have a lot of exciting things happening here at PQ throughout the month of November!
First, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in our Veterans Day Assembly. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Snowdon for coordinating this meaningful event and to Mr. Crawford for the incredible display he created for everyone to view. The care and thought that went into every detail were evident.
So many veterans approached us afterward to share how much the assembly meant to them and how touched they were by the recognition. It was a wonderful reminder of what makes our school community so special; coming together to honor others and show genuine appreciation. Thank you again to everyone who helped make it such a heartfelt and memorable event.
North Salem Youth Basketball League Fundraiser
The North Salem Youth Basketball League has launched a fundraiser featuring North Salem GOAT athletic gear! All proceeds will go directly toward supporting the district’s goal of building a high ropes course at PQ. This will be an amazing addition for our students promoting teamwork, confidence, and adventure-based learning.
Please see the information below and take advantage of this opportunity to show your Tiger pride while supporting a great cause!
Cultural Celebration Week Is Back!
We’re thrilled to announce that Cultural Celebration Week is returning to PQ! This is one of our favorite traditions. It is a special time when we come together as a school community to celebrate who we are and where we come from. Each year, this event continues to evolve, showcasing the rich diversity that makes North Salem such a unique and welcoming place.
A few highlights from this year’s celebration include:
STOMP will be hosting a school-wide performance on Tuesday, November 18th.
One of our very own paraprofessionals will lead a Multi-Cultural Music Festival in the gymnasium on Friday of that week.
Please take a moment to review the full day-to-day schedule so your child can participate and fully enjoy all the activities planned.
Parent–Teacher Conferences Next Week
A reminder that Parent–Teacher Conferences will take place next week. Please be sure to sign up for a meeting with your child’s classroom teacher.
For families with children in grades 3–5, remember that these grades are departmentalized, which means your child has multiple teachers. You will schedule your conference with your child’s homeroom teacher, who will review overall progress and share insights from all academic areas.
At conferences, you will also receive your child’s new report card. We spent all of last school year developing this updated format to give parents more specific, meaningful feedback about their child’s academic progress. I’ve attached a copy of the new report card and a letter explaining its key features. Please take a moment to review them before conferences.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support, enthusiasm, and partnership. Have a wonderful rest of your week!
Roy Martin & Dawn Snowdon
Parent / Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be held on Thurday, November 20th 1:00-8:00
There is NO SCHOOL for students on this day.
The link for signing up for conferences is below. SignUps are open from 8:00am Nov. 10th through 12:00pm November 17th.
Cultural Celebration Week
PQ is proud to celebrate their Cultural Celebration Week next week! We'll have assemblies, Spirit Week, and other activities to showcase our many cultures at PQ. Please check out the flyer below.
Veteran's Day Assembly
Our Veteran's Day Assembly was a wonderful tribute to our heros! We had so many people who helped to make this event a success. A special thank you to all Veterans, John Crawford, PQ PTO, Croton Falls Fire Department, Westchester Cty Police Honor Guard, No.Salem Police Dept., 2nd Grade Girl Scouts, United For The Troops, the MSHS Band, director Steve Austin, speakers Steve Elliot and Mike Castelli, and PQ's Custodians, Administrators, Teachers, and Staff. What a wonderful community!
Visitor From the Nespurse Tribe
5th Grade was visted by J.R. Spencer. He is a member of the Nespurse (or Nez Perce)Tribe. This tribe is from the Pacific Northwest. They are known throughout histrory for their Appaloosa horses, skills at riding horses, and being a peaceful nation. 5th grade is currently reading "Thunder Rolling in the Mountains" by Scott O'Dell. J.R. Spencer was able to connect what students have learned from the book to the real-life life stories of the Nespurse tribe. J.R. shared traditional folklore and music and was able to verify stories that are shared in the book.
4th Grade Band Update
4th grade band rehearsals will be starting up this month. Please click on the links below for more information. Depending on whether your student is signed up for morning or afternoon sessions, the following are the dates for the first few sessions:
Wednesday Mornings 8:00- 8:50 AM : November 26, December 3, December 10
Thursday Afternoons 3:30 - 4:15 PM : November 13, December 4, December 11
Genius Hour Going Strong
The fall topic for Genius Hour is Stop Motion. All students in grades three through five were able to sign up during their library block to learn about stop motion animation techniques. Students in grades 4 and 5 who attend day one and two of their assigned Genius Hour time are able to sign up for bootcamp. Bootcamp involves creating a storyboard and learning advanced techniques using the Stop Motion Studio App to complete a longer movie.
Capstone Projects Continue
Students in Mr. Tavino's class spent time with their Kindergarten Buddies from Mrs. Ulrich's class last week! The teams followed an algorithm to create creepy carrots together. This project used fine motor skills, creativity, and collaboration.
