This newsletter brings you useful information to inspire your professional practice, sparks a yearning for continuous learning and growth and help you to survive and thrive as a beginning teacher or an experienced teacher new to VBCPS. Enjoy!
Although autumn marks the final quarter of the calendar year, it marks a beginning - a fresh start - in the school year. Like apple trees heavy with fruit that spent a year growing toward this moment, our students return from summer, ripe for another year of learning.
Much like squirrels stockpile acorns, this is the time to gather resources and strategies to keep yourself and your practice strong and steady through the winter. Take time to evaluate the relationships you've been building with students and their families in these first weeks. Think about the learning environment you envisioned on Day 1 and find evidence of what is working. Make note of areas that you'd like to strengthen. Sit a minute with yourself and identify what you need personally and professionally.
In this October issue of Survive and Thrive you'll find several items intended to inspire both reflection and preparation on the topics of parent communication, responsive classroom, and community engagement. Pour yourself some warm spiced apple cider and enjoy.
