June Newsletter
💗 Heritage Heights School 💗
Dear Husky Families! 🐾
As we turn the calendar to June, it is hard to believe how quickly this school year has flown by. Looking back on the past month alone, we are filled with pride and gratitude for our students, staff, families, and community.
One of the highlights of May was our incredible drama production, Westward, Whoa! We could not be prouder of our talented actors, dedicated tech crew, and the leadership of Mr. Berrigan and Ms. Lehmann. The performances showcased not only tremendous talent but also the confidence, creativity, and teamwork that make Heritage Heights such a special place. Bravo to everyone involved!
Our track and field athletes represented our school with determination, sportsmanship, and Husky pride. Whether competing on the track, in the field events, or cheering on teammates, our students gave it their all. Two of our athletes placed in Zones in running events. Congratulations to them!! Thank you to Mrs. McKellar, our staff, and the many parent volunteers whose support made another successful season possible.
This month, our school community was inspired by guest speaker Chris Koch. His message about resilience, perspective, and living life to the fullest left a lasting impact on students and staff alike. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from his remarkable story and outlook on life. Thank you to the Stevenson family for connecting us for this presentation.
As we enter the final month of the school year, our students are focused on finishing strong. June will bring final assessments, Grade 6 and Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests, exciting year-end field trips, and many opportunities to celebrate learning and growth.
A very special thank you goes to our incredible School Council. Through their ongoing fundraising efforts and generosity, they are covering the transportation costs for all year-end field trips. This support allows our students to enjoy memorable experiences that enrich their learning and create lasting memories. We are deeply appreciative of everything our School Council does for our school community.
Grade 9 families, please join us for our Grade 9 Farewell on June 19, 2026. It is always a bittersweet evening as we recognize our graduating students' accomplishments and wish them well as they move on to high school. While it is never easy to say goodbye, we are excited to see where their next chapter takes them.
At the same time, we will be welcoming our newest Huskies as future Kindergarten students join us for a special morning visit. For many, it will even include their very first school bus ride! We cannot wait to meet the newest members of our Heritage Heights family and begin building connections for the years ahead.
It truly has been an incredible year. Together, we have learned, grown, celebrated successes, faced challenges, and continued to build a school community where students thrive. As summer approaches, we hope everyone takes time to reflect on their accomplishments and enjoy a well-deserved break.
While there are still many exciting moments ahead this month, we are already busy planning for another outstanding year at Heritage Heights. Thank you for being part of our journey.
Wishing all of our Huskies and their families a wonderful June!
With appreciation,
Ms. Rita Marie Rahn (Principal)
Mrs. Shanda Dupras (Vice Principal)

Class Placements for 2026 - 2027
It is the professional responsibility of administrators and teachers to create class configurations each year that balance students' needs and available resources. When making decisions for class placement, a great deal of time and thought is spent creating classes where students will successfully learn together. In order to create balanced, equitable and productive classroom environments, we take into consideration the following factors:
- Class size targets
- Academic readiness
- Learning Support needs
- Specific talents & abilities
- Gender balance
- Social connections
- Emotional/behavioural needs
The team at Heritage Heights has a complete picture of these areas; we are confident in the class lists we create. As such, we do not accept requests for specific teachers but do accept letters of parental requests regarding your child's academic and/or social-emotional needs. Please submit requests, with the title Placement 2026-2027, to rahnr@fsd38.ab.ca
Class configurations are very difficult. We need to take many factors into consideration; budget, class numbers, teacher expertise and experience. With low student enrollments and decreased funding, we will be running one grade 2, one grade 2/3 combined and one grade 3 class at the elementary levels. Teacher judgement will drive the class placements, with parent requests part of the decisions. If your child was in a combined class this year and you would prefer the grade 2 class, please write an email to Mrs. Rahn for staff consideration.
WE NEED YOU! Join Parent Council! 🤗

Huskies in May! 🌺
BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION 🚌
On Bus Driver Appreciation Day, we extended our heartfelt thanks to the incredible Foothills School Division bus drivers who serve our Heritage Heights community each day. Our bus drivers do far more than transport students to and from school. They are often the first smiling face our students see in the morning and the last caring adult they see before arriving home. They know our students by name and play an important role in creating a safe and welcoming start and end to each school day.
We are grateful for their dedication, patience, kindness, and commitment to ensuring our Huskies arrive at school ready to learn and return home safely to their families. Thank you for the countless kilometres travelled, the relationships built, and the care you show our students every day.
A Huge Thank You to School Council! 🐾
As we head into the final weeks of the school year, we would like to extend a massive shoutout of appreciation to our incredible Heritage Heights School Council. Thanks to their generous support, all transportation costs for our year-end field trips have been covered!
By funding the busing to and from these excursions, the School Council has kept costs down for families and allowed our teachers to plan meaningful, memorable experiences for students. From outdoor adventures to educational explorations, these field trips are sure to create lasting memories and celebrate a fantastic year of learning together.
Thank you, School Council, for your ongoing commitment to our students and school community.
We are so grateful for everything you do to make Heritage Heights an amazing place to learn and grow!
Volunteer Appreciation - Cinco de Mayo Style! 🪅
A huge thank you to Ms. Szott and Ms. Deeks for organizing another wonderful Volunteer Appreciation Afternoon to celebrate the incredible individuals who give so generously of their time to support Heritage Heights School. While the theme may have featured plenty of chips and guacamole, the truth is that there simply is not enough guacamole in the world to express our gratitude for everything our volunteers do fully. Throughout the year, our volunteers read with students, supervise activities, provide meals on interview evenings, support classrooms, help make field trips possible, cheer from the sidelines, and contribute in countless ways that make our school stronger, warmer, and better for everyone.
The afternoon was filled with laughter and appreciation, including a friendly staff guacamole competition that showcased some impressive culinary talents! Our students also shared a heartfelt thank-you video and performed a special song for our guests, reminding us all just how much these acts of service mean to our school community. To every volunteer who has given their time, energy, and heart to Heritage Heights this year -- thank you. Your impact reaches far beyond the moments you spend in our school.
We are so grateful to call you part of our Husky family.
Huskies Shine at Track & Field 🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♀️🏃
What a fantastic track and field season for our Heritage Heights Huskies! Throughout the season, students demonstrated determination, sportsmanship, resilience, and school spirit as they trained, competed, and encouraged one another.
Track and field offers something unique—an opportunity for every athlete to challenge themselves, set personal goals, and celebrate growth. Whether students were sprinting down the track, soaring through the air in the long jump, clearing the bar in the high jump, or giving it their all in throwing events, we were incredibly proud of their effort and commitment.
A special thank you goes to Mrs. McKellar for her leadership and organization throughout the season, as well as to our staff and parent volunteers who helped coach, supervise, cheer, and support our athletes every step of the way. Events like these simply would not be possible without your dedication.
Most importantly, our students represented Heritage Heights with pride, encouragement, and perseverance. They celebrated personal bests, supported teammates, and showed what it means to be a Husky both on and off the field.
Congratulations to all of our athletes on another successful season!
Grade 5 Market Day Brings Economics to Life!
Our Grade 5 students recently transformed their classroom into a bustling marketplace as part of their Social Studies learning about trade, barter, currency, and taxation.
Students worked hard to design products and services, create businesses, develop pricing strategies, and prepare for the big day. As the market opened, students had the opportunity to buy, sell, negotiate, and even barter with one another, experiencing firsthand many of the economic concepts they had been studying in class.
To make the experience even more authentic, students used classroom currency and learned how taxes impact transactions. Along the way, they practiced critical thinking, communication, financial literacy, and problem-solving skills while having plenty of fun.
Market Day was a wonderful example of learning coming to life through hands-on experiences. We were incredibly impressed by the creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and enthusiasm demonstrated by our Grade 5 students. Well done, Grade 5!
Student Matters Team Promotes Heritage Heights!
Our Student Matters team recently attended the final Foothills School Division Student Matters Forum of the school year, joining student leaders from schools across the division to share ideas, celebrate successes, and learn from one another.
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for our Heritage Heights students to showcase the promotional videos they created to highlight our school community. The videos captured the spirit of Heritage Heights, featuring our students, programs, opportunities, and the welcoming culture that makes our school such a special place to learn and grow.
We were incredibly proud of how our students represented Heritage Heights. They shared their ideas with confidence, connected with fellow student leaders, and demonstrated the leadership, creativity, and school pride that make them outstanding ambassadors for our school.
