Principal Update! Principal Update!

Whew! What a great school year --- it is hard to believe it is over! This school year has been different as we live through construction all around us. It feels like yesterday we were watching walls go up, and now we are preparing to move into the new area in a few short months!

A few updates for the 2026-2027 school year:

  • At this time, we plan to have five sections of kindergarten through 4th grade. 5th grade will continue to have four sections.

  • We will welcome a few new staff members to York Elementary School in the fall:

    • Mrs. Carma Colburn, Kindergarten

    • Mrs. Chelsi Christensen, Kindergarten

    • Mrs. Liesal Hoffman, Special Education

    • Mrs. Hannah Worster, 5th Grade

    • Mr. Mason Hiemstra, PE

  • We will welcome all students back to school on August 12, 2026!

York Elementary School will be a busy place this summer, but it will be closed to the public. If you are needing to drop anything off or contact us, please contact the district office. Construction this summer will include renovations to our kitchen and cafeteria, and we are excited to welcome students back to new areas next school year! The west addition for Early Childhood will welcome kindergarten students, one preschool class, and then will hold some 3rd and 4th grade classes next year. A lot will be new and different next year! You will hear communication from me this summer about changes to pick-up and drop-off, and any other construction-related changes. Stay tuned!

It is an exciting time at York Elementary School, and I am excited to continue to watch students learn, build relationships, and have fun while learning. I am always so thankful that I get to see the great things that happen at Y.E.S each day -- with your partnership, great things happen for over 600 students each day. I hope everyone has a safe and fun summer, and we will look forward to seeing you in August!

For kids who rely on school meals, summer can be the hungriest time of year, and hunger has

short- and long-term consequences for a child’s health, education and well-being. Making sure

kids and teens have access to nutritious summer meals is especially important this summer.

The Summer Meals program is funded by the USDA and run by school districts and local

organizations, and sites can be found throughout the community. We’re always happy to see

you at York Elementary School, but there may be more convenient locations closer to you.

Families can use the USDA’s Summer for Kids Map, call the USDA National Hunger Hotline M-

F between 7am -7pm CT at 1-866-3-HUNGRY English, or 1-877-8-HAMBRE Spanish or text

“Food” or “SFSP” to 914-342-7744 any day 24/7. No application, registration or proof of

residency or citizenship is required at sites.
