Jayhawk-Linn

Dear Jayhawk-Linn Families,

We are excited to share updates on student attendance and our beginning-of-year FastBridge assessments. Our students are off to a strong start, and we are proud of the positive momentum they are building. Their commitment to learning and being at school each day helps make Jayhawk-Linn a great place for students to learn and grow.

Attendance

Attendance continues to be an important area of focus at Jayhawk-Linn. We are committed to celebrating strong attendance while also identifying concerns early and providing support for students who may be developing patterns of missed school.

During the month of August, we recognized 124 students for perfect attendance. Each student received a certificate and a piece of bubble gum as a small celebration of their commitment to being at school every day. We appreciate the continued support of our students, families, and staff in making regular attendance a priority.

FastBridge Assessments

Our beginning-of-year FastBridge assessments are complete, and we are pleased with our initial results. These assessments provide valuable information about where our students are beginning the school year academically.

Our staff will use this data to identify individual student strengths and areas for growth, guide classroom instruction, and determine appropriate interventions and enrichment opportunities. The results will also help us identify students who may need additional support and ensure we are responding to those needs early in the school year.

This beginning-of-year data provides an important baseline that we will use to monitor student progress and growth throughout the 2026–2027 school year. We look forward to celebrating the growth our students make as the year progresses.

Eligibility and Student in Good Standing

We also continue to emphasize the importance of students maintaining eligibility and being a Student in Good Standing. As outlined in the Jayhawk-Linn Student Handbook, students must meet academic, attendance, and behavioral expectations to remain in good standing and participate in school activities.

Academic eligibility is reviewed weekly. Students who are failing any class are considered ineligible for the following week. Our goal is not simply to identify students who are struggling, but to intervene early and help them get back on track. Tuesday Hawk Time provides a dedicated opportunity for students to review grades, check missing assignments, communicate with teachers, and make a plan for upcoming activities that may require them to miss class.

Eligibility, attendance, and academic progress all reinforce the same message: being present, being prepared, and taking responsibility for learning matter. We appreciate our families partnering with us as we help students develop these habits and demonstrate Jayhawk P.R.I.D.E. throughout the school year.

One Team. One Goal. Go Jayhawks!

New Personal Electronic Device Policy New Personal Electronic Device Policy

As we begin the school year, we also want to remind families about a new Kansas law regarding student personal electronic devices. Cell phones, smart watches used for communication, and wireless earbuds/headphones may not be accessible to students during the school day. At Jayhawk-Linn, students will turn off their cell phones and place them in their assigned academic lockers at the beginning of the school day, where they will remain until the end of the day. We appreciate your partnership in helping us create an environment where students can focus on learning and build meaningful connections with their teachers and classmates.

Common Q & A - We polled our office staff & here is a FAQ they receive.

My student brings their own lunch. Should I complete a Free/Reduced application?

YES! Everyone that qualifies or thinks they may qualify should complete one! It helps the school, the district, and your student in many different ways. Check out the attached graphic for more information. An approved application from the 25-26 school year only carries over for 30 days. You must complete a new one for the 26-27 school year.

Student Handbook

The Student Handbook is designed to provide students and parents with essential information about our school's policies, procedures, and expectations.

This year, the Course Guide and Athletics Handbook have been combined into a single document for your convenience. You will also notice the addition of a table of contents with hyperlinks, making it easy to navigate directly to the information you need.

We encourage all students and parents to review these resources together before the start of the school year.
