A Note from Principal Eck
Dear Westmoor Families,
Happy first day of Spring! We had a fantastic week. While learning is always our top priority, this week brought some extra excitement. We were thrilled to welcome Chloe, the therapy dog from the Northbrook Police Department, and our students also came together to create a whole-school video—an experience that was both fun and memorable for everyone. Be sure to take a moment to check out the video (linked on the Buddy the Mascot picture) and see the joy and creativity our students brought to life!
Report cards have been posted! To view your child’s report card, please log in at: teacherease.com and click where it says “Login.” Your user name is your email address. If you are unable to recall the password you used to access report cards last year, please click the “Forgot Password” link to reset it. For parents with multiple children, you can toggle between student accounts by clicking on the silhouette of a person on the upper right side of the screen. If you need assistance, please contact Lisa Brown at the District 28 office - lbrown@northbrook28.net.
As a reminder, April 6-10 is state testing (IL Assessment of Readiness-IAR) for 3rd-5th graders. We will test each morning from 9:00 am until about 10:30. Please make every effort for students to be on time for these days as they will not be able to test that day if they arrive late and miss the instructions. Please also avoid student absences for appointments if at all possible.
As we look ahead, it’s time to begin planning for the upcoming school year. Below, you’ll find important information about class placements and the request process.
We hope you and your families enjoy a wonderful spring break. We look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday, March 30!
Quote of the Week
Each week students may submit a positive quote that captures and motivates their peers to persevere and feel good. We then showcase the quotes throughout the school building. Students may submit a quote, using this link.

SCHOOL NEWS
2026-27 Class Placements
We strive to establish a positive learning setting for your child by carefully considering various factors when determining class placements. These factors include the child's academic strengths, areas for improvement, IEP and 504 plan requirements, English language support needs, social-emotional considerations, peer interactions, and preferred teaching styles.
Please note that we do not accommodate specific friendship or teacher requests for class assignments. However, we value your input on the classroom environment that would best support your child's learning and development.
If you would like to provide us with your feedback, please complete this form. Any correspondence regarding class placements is due by 4 PM on Friday, April 17, 2026.

Donations Needed
Dr. Krauter's class is collecting toiletries to donate to the Housing Opportunities Development Corporation (HODC), an organization that assists people who need housing. People who are unhoused often need toiletries, and we can help. We’re also collecting T-shirts without distracting logos or sequins to make bags for the toiletries we collect. Donations can be placed in bins, which will be placed at every entrance around the school. This project will take place from March 20 through April 15. More information on HODC is available at https://hodc.org/.
Supporting Healthy Physical Play
As children grow, physical play is an important part of their development. Activities such as running, climbing, wrestling, building, balancing, and other forms of active movement help children strengthen their muscles, improve coordination, develop body awareness, and practice social skills like cooperation and self-regulation.
While school recess must remain a safe and structured environment for all students, some types of rough-and-tumble or high-energy play are better suited for supervised settings outside of school. Providing opportunities for active physical play at home, at parks, in sports, or during other supervised activities helps children meet their developmental movement needs.
The following handout from our occupational and physical therapy staff includes ideas for safe, developmentally appropriate ways children can engage in physical play outside of school to support their strength, coordination, and overall well-being.
IAR/ISA Assessment Windows for Grades 3-5 in April
Students in grades 3-5 will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) during the week of April 6-10, and the Illinois Science Assessment the week of April 13-17 for grade 5. IAR tests will begin in the morning, and will take 60-90 minutes.
As we approach our upcoming spring assessments, we want to ensure our students feel confident and ready to do their best. These tests will measure growth and grade level achievement in reading, writing, and math (and also science for grade 5). The best way to prepare students for any standardized test is to maintain consistent daily routines, and parents can support by:
ensuring students come to school each day on time
minimizing the scheduling of doctor’s appointments, dental visits, or family vacations during our testing window.
providing healthy foods, especially in the morning, and avoiding foods with high amounts of sugar or caffeine.
getting a good night's rest.
celebrating your child's effort and hard work! Consider planning a fun end-of-week celebration together!
Thank you, families, for your partnership and support in helping to make our assessments go smoothly.
Share a picture with us!
We’re excited to showcase the special moments and achievements of our students and their families. Whether it’s a holiday, cultural tradition, a child’s milestone like riding a bike without training wheels, a big win at a soccer game, welcoming a new pet, or anything else that makes you proud — we’d love to feature it! Here is the link to share a photo and brief description.
