Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

Happy New Year to Everyone!

I hope you all had a safe and joyous Holiday Season!

As we move into a new semseter, I wanted to remind you all of a few things as we begin.

School begins promptly at 8:00 AM Monday-Friday. Students may be dropped off beginning at 7:30 AM. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 AM-8:10 AM.

Students who enter the building after 8:00 AM MUST check in with a parent in the front office.

When checking out students during the day, please make sure you have a Photo Id when entering the building. You cannot call ahead to checkout a student. You must enter the building and present your Photo ID. There will be NO CHECKOUTS after 2:00 PM.

Parents, please DO NOT drop students off in the parking lot. This is a major safety concern. Please utilize the car line in the morning and afternoons.

If you receive a Attendance Letter to attend a meeting, please stop by the front office and clear up all outstanding absences with Mrs. Viverette. Please be reminded that you can write 8 Parent Excuse Notes for the year, after 8 PE notes will not be accepted but can be sent in. If you clear up all outstanding absences before your meeting date, you do not have to come in. You may email any doctors notes or excuse notes to Genesis.Viverette@hsv-k12.org or Nicole.Pittsley@hsv-k12.org.

WE NEED YOU!! Please join our PTA. We have a lot of great activities planned for this semester and we would love for you to be a part. Please contact Anastasia Johnson (johnson.anya@gmail.com) or Amanda Rochelle (amanda@rochelle.name) for ways to volunteer or join.

See you all next week!

WES Behavior Expectations

We encourage all students to show their Hawk PRIDE. At Williams ES, students are expected to follow the following schoolwide expectations daily. Each classroom has their own expectations to follow in additon to the schoolwide expectations. When all expectations are followed, students can be invited to our monthly PBIS celebrations. Students who do no meet these expectations will attend a class geared toward correcting behaviors that do not meet the expectations.

Welcome Ms. Thompson to WES Community as our new Assistant Principal

Greetings Williams Elementary Community!

It is my great pleasure and honor to join your team and community as a fellow Hawk! I look forward to building relationships with the Hawks Community! I am truly grateful that my next journey will be with you! I hope that my vast knowledge as an educator and administrator will be put to great use. Since 2007, I have had the privilege of serving as an elementary and sixth-grade teacher with Huntsville City Schools. I have also served two summers as a summer school program principal with our school district, on a myriad of leadership teams, and as an interim assistant principal at Jones Valley, and finally as an Assistant Principal for my fifth year. I started my journey as an Assistant Principal at Lee High School, followed by Goldsmith Schiffman Elementary, and now I am proud to support Williams Elementary School. I am from Chicago but having a parent in the military caused us to move and travel the world. The most exciting place that I resided was Japan from 5th to 10th grade. I have a son who attends the University of Alabama, “Roll Tide!”. Our dog, Oreo, our fur-baby, keeps me on my toes and is the other love of my life as well as my family and friends. I am here to support in anyway that I can. I look forward to finishing the year strong and helping us to meet our academic goals and student success together.

Warmest regards, Nicole Thompson, AP Williams Elementary School

Alabama Literacy Act

3rd Grade Parents,

Please click on the link below to learn more information about the Alabama Literacy Act and how it may or may not affect 3rd Grade students. As you may know, Alabama placed into law an act that states that all 3rd Grade students must be proficient in Reading before moving on to the 4th Grade. Students will take the ACAP Summative Assessment in the Spring that will determine mastery. Students must meet a cut score of in order to be considered for promotion. Students who do not meet this goal will be identified and parameters will be put in place. There are some exceptions to this law fro qualifying students.

There will be a meeting in January geared toward the explanation of this law and how it effects students. I encourage all parents to attend.

For more information, you can reach out to your child's teacher.
