Greensview Weekly News 8.31.26
Dear Greensview Families,
It has been wonderful to see our students settling into the new school year! As we head into September, there are several important updates and opportunities to keep on your radar.
We have several events coming up quickly including Gifted Services Information Nights, our September 10 PTO meeting, Walk for Greensview on September 18, and Literacy Night on September 23.
It was a pleasure to have over 30 parents at the first PTO meeting of the year. Being involved with the PTO is a great way to connect with families and help support your child’s school.
Thank you for helping make Greensview a safe, welcoming, and joyful place to learn!
Warm regards,
Jason Wulf

Back to School Information for Families
It’s time to start getting ready for the 2026-2027 school year! Here’s what you need to know now to be ready for August!
Back-to-school forms (K-12) — available late July: Families of returning students will receive information in late July in order to complete back-to-school forms in PowerSchool. Families will need to complete the forms prior to the first day of the school year.
Back-to-school fees (K-12) — available late July: Families of new and returning students can log in to PaySchools Central in late July to pay any fees associated with their students and put funds on their lunch accounts. The student fee schedule approved by the Board of Education reflects the elimination of all student class and course fees for the 2026-2027 school year. The annual fees for the 2026-2027 school year include:
The optional Technology Protection Plan fee ($25) for students in grades K-12
Athletic fees at the middle school and high school levels
Student parking fees at the high school
Families wishing to purchase the optional Technology Protection Plan must complete the technology forms in PowerSchool AND pay the $25 fee in PaySchools Central before the first day of school for the 2026-2027 school year (August 12, 2026).
Football Friday night guidelines for elementary and middle school families
If you plan to cheer on your Golden Bears this season, please keep in mind the following important rules. These expectations will be enforced throughout the football season in order to create a positive and enjoyable environment for Golden Bear fans of all ages.
If you choose to participate in a tailgate, please be aware that state law prohibits the possession or use of alcohol or controlled substances on school grounds or at school-related events. This includes any school parking lot.
If you have a young fan in your family, please remember that elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by a supervising adult throughout the entirety of the game. These students should sit in the stands during the game unless they are using the restroom or waiting in line at the concession stands. There should be no loitering at the concession stands, restrooms or under the bleachers.
Footballs and other sports equipment are not allowed at the game and will be confiscated. Students should not throw these or other items, spit or touch each other.
Elementary and middle school students are not permitted on the field after the game until the visiting team is off the turf and the alma mater has concluded.
Students must leave the stadium within 20 minutes of the conclusion of the game.
Finally, the turf practice fields will be off limits during and after varsity football home games.
If a student is not able to meet these expectations during the game, a parent or guardian will be contacted to pick up the student immediately.
Vision and Hearing Screenings
The Ohio Department of Health requires vision and hearing screenings for children in kindergarten, first, third, fifth grade, and all students new to the district each year. These screenings will be done starting in September. Screenings can also be performed at various other times during the year at parent or teacher request. Should you wish to opt your student out of vision and hearing screenings this year, please complete and return this form to us: Vision and Hearing Screening Waiver. Students who have difficulty with the initial screening are re-screened. If there still appears to be a difficulty, parents are notified, and follow-up by a health care provider is suggested.
Important Transportation Reminder
To help our bus drivers become familiar with their assigned students, establish consistent routines, and complete required seating charts, students must ride only their assigned bus during the beginning of the school year.
Beginning Monday, August 31, 2026, through Friday, October 9, 2026, no additional students will be permitted to ride a bus other than the one to which they are assigned. We will not be able to accommodate “riding home with a friend”
The only exception is for a regular sitter or childcare arrangement that has been approved in advance by Transportation and communicated to the school.
This restriction will remain in place through our official student count week, October 5–9, 2026. After count week has concluded, regular transportation procedures regarding riding home with another student may resume.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep transportation safe, organized, and consistent for all students.
PTO
PTO Update and Important School Supply Information for the FALL
The district asked Greensview's PTO to order school supplies in bulk for ALL Greensview students! No more searching store after store for a certain color folder or buying a 5-pack of glue sticks when you only need one! For the discounted price of $25 per student, school supplies (except iPad accessories) are ordered in bulk and delivered right to your child’s classroom in time for the first day. In addition to the tremendous cost savings to Greensview families, this process helps create equity among our students and ensures everyone has just what they need to kick off the school year. Additional information will go out with teacher assignments on how to pay for your student's 2026-27 supplies.
Sunday 8/9: Kindergarten Playground Meet Up at 2pm
Tuesday 8/11: Meet the Teacher Popsicle Party
Immediately after meeting their new teachers, have your children stop by the playground for a quick popsicle with classmates
Wednesday 8/12: Back-to-School Parent Breakfast
After your children go in for their first day of school, stop by the PTO tent for coffee and a light breakfast. The tent will be set up on the lawn by safety town. Do NOT park on the north side of Langston for this event, as this lane is designated for stop, drop, and go only.
Volunteers Needed: The PTO would like to establish 1-2 parent volunteers per classroom to be a LEAD ROOM PARENT. Some of the room parent responsibilities include:
Coordination of the class basket for Fall Family Fun Night (collecting donations and putting the basket together- coming up October 2nd!)
Request and organize volunteers for 2 class parties through sign up genius and sending reminders as needed.
Coordination of a class art project for the Mane Event.
The LEAD ROOM PARENT role is a great way to support the teachers and communicate with other parents in your students' classroom. You will have support from us and the Greensview parent community!
Click HERE to sign up, or feel free to reach out to Leah Pickering or Tracy Kabealo (emails below) and we can get you slotted in!
Thank you so much for your support of the amazing work happening at Greensview!

Hope Garden dedication ceremony set for September 4
Join the Upper Arlington Education Foundation, Upper Arlington Schools and the Short family for the dedication of the Hope Garden at Upper Arlington High School on Friday, September 4, at 5:30 p.m.
The brief ceremony will be held at the garden, located near the south entrance of Marv Moorehead Memorial Stadium, between the high school building and the tennis courts. This space is a peaceful, welcoming space where students, families, staff and community members can pause in times of heartache, find hope in difficult moments and honor the memories of those they have lost.
Made possible through the generosity of donors to the Hope Garden Fund through the Upper Arlington Education Foundation, the garden honors the life of Sam Short and other Upper Arlington students who passed away during their time in our schools. Sam, the beloved son of Mike and Tori Short, was the first graduate of Upper Arlington High School's 100th class. His courageous spirit and enduring optimism inspired his family to create a place that not only celebrates his life but also provides comfort, hope and remembrance for members of the Upper Arlington Schools community who have experienced the loss of a student.
Don't Forget PE Shoes!
A quick reminder to check your child’s schedule for physical education (PE) days. Please ensure they wear sneakers or athletic shoes on those days. Safe footwear prevents slips, protects toes, and allows your student to fully participate in all the fun, active games. Thank you for helping keep our kids safe and moving!
Updated iPad Communication
As we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, we want to share an important update regarding elementary iPad use. Over the past six months, the district reviewed our K–5 technology access using feedback from parents, teachers, and administrators. Our main goal is to prioritize active, meaningful learning and reduce unnecessary screen time.
Based on this review, elementary iPads will now stay at school for academic use and charging, rather than automatically coming home every day.
Here is what you need to know about how this change looks for your child:
Kindergarten through 2nd Grade: iPads will remain at school.
Grades 3 through 5: iPads will generally stay at school, but teachers have the flexibility to send them home when needed for specific assignments or projects.
Exceptions for Learning Needs: Students who require a device at home as part of an individualized learning plan will continue to have take-home access.
We know from your feedback that managing devices at home can sometimes add stress to your evenings. If a teacher does send an iPad home for an assignment, they will communicate with you in advance. The district is also suggesting the following home-use boundary guidelines to help manage and limit device use at home when one is brought home.
Public Space Only: iPads should be used and stored in common areas (kitchen, living room) rather than bedrooms to allow for easy supervision and focus.
Educational Purpose Only: The device is a digital school desk extension; if it is not being used for an active assignment communicated by the teacher, it should shut down and put away.
Digital Sunset: Families are highly encouraged to use the Lightspeed Parent Portal to disable internet access from 8:00 PM to 7:45 AM to protect bedtime routines and ensure the device is ready for school.
Thank you for your partnership as we work together to create a healthy, balanced learning environment for our students.
New Attendance Policy for 2026-2027
Based on changes in Ohio law and Upper Arlington Schools Board of Education policy, new attendance requirements will be in effect beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. These changes affect how schools track student attendance, when families receive notifications, and when districts must intervene to address attendance concerns.
The biggest change is that all missed time is counted — includes tardies, medical absences, pre-planned absences, non-school-sponsored activities and competitions, and Religious Expression days — toward chronic absenteeism. Parents/guardians may find information about the changes in attendance policy on our website.
Religious Expression Days
State law does allow a student’s parent or guardian to request up to three religious expression days for each school year without any academic penalty. Religious expression days may be used to take holidays for reasons of faith or religious or spiritual belief system or participate in organized activities conducted under the auspices of a religious denomination, church, or other religious or spiritual organization.
Parents/guardians must submit this form within the 14 school days after the start of the school year (September 1, 2026) to request up to three religious expression days for the 2026-2027 school year. Requests received after 14 days from the start of the school year will not be approved. For additional information, visit our website.
Looking for a flexible way to join the Upper Arlington Schools team? 🍎
We’re hiring part-time and substitute food service workers, and educational aides to support our school cafeterias, classrooms and playgrounds— and these roles fall within the school day schedule,
making them a great fit for anyone looking to work while students are in school.
You’ll be part of a friendly, team-oriented environment that helps fuel our students' learning every day.

Parent Information Night: Elementary Gifted Services
Elementary parents are invited to attend one of two Elementary Gifted Services Parent Information Nights in the coming weeks. These sessions are designed to help answer questions regarding gifted services, including gifted qualifications, gifted clusters, and Written Education Plans (WEPs). The same presentation will be provided on both nights, so please select the date that works best for you.
Monday, August 31: Jones Middle School auditorium, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, September 2: Hastings Middle School auditorium, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Dogs on School Property: Safety Reminder
While we know many students enjoy seeing their furry friends, dogs are not permitted on school property at any time, including during arrival and dismissal. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and comfort of all students and staff.
If you're walking your dog to school for pick-up or drop-off, please wait on the perimeter sidewalks off school grounds. Your child can meet you there at the designated dismissal area.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school environment safe for everyone!
