📝 Principal's Corner
Straight from the Top!
As we enter the month of November, we are reminded of all the things we are thankful for — our amazing students, dedicated teachers, and supportive families who make our school community so special.
This month brings many opportunities to learn, grow, and give thanks. We encourage everyone to focus on gratitude, kindness, and perseverance as we move toward the holiday season.
🌟 Important Reminders:
-
Veterans Day: We will honor our veterans with a Nov 24-28 – Enjoy time with loved ones and rest!
-
Progress Reports / Benchmark Testing: Be sure to check grades and encourage consistent attendance.
Let’s make this month one of reflection, gratitude, and continued excellence. Thank you for all you do to make our school a wonderful place to learn every day.
💙 SWPREP Core Value of the Month
FAMILY
Students are a blessing to society, and our requirement and duty is to respect the will of the parent and prepare students to be successful in school. Students will not be required to be part of a particular class that is inconsistent with the values of their family.
Why It Matters:
At Southwest Preparatory School, we believe that parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. We honor their right to guide their child’s learning and values. In a world where many schools have moved away from family-centered decision-making, Southwest Prep stands firm: we partner with families—not replace them.
We believe students thrive when school and home work hand in hand. Our goal is to teach strong academics, critical thinking, and character, while respecting the beliefs and values of every family we serve.
Real-World Reward:
When families and schools work together, students feel secure, respected, and confident in who they are. That foundation helps them succeed in college, career, and life — and it’s a hallmark of what makes Southwest Prep different.
💛 Capturing Kids Hearts Core Value of the Month
CHARACTER TRAIT FOR NOVEMBER/TEAMWORK
This Month’s Focus: We’re challenging students to work together toward a common goal and shared purpose. At Southwest Prep, we know that learning how to collaborate, communicate, and care for others prepares students for success in school and life.
Family Connection:
We’re partnering with you to grow and develop teamwork in your child. Families can nurture teamwork at home by:Modeling gratefulness – Notice and celebrate what each family member brings to the team
Acknowledging positive moments – Speak encouragement and appreciation often.
Affirming each other – A kind word can change someone’s whole day.
Try This at Home: Use this month’s Capturing Kids’ Hearts activities to practice teamwork and gratitude together:
💙 Grateful for You – Write one thing you appreciate about your child on a sticky note each day.
👟 Walk in My Shoes – Trace each family member’s shoe and write three things you admire about them.
🌟 Pay It Forward – Encourage small acts of kindness each week and share your favorite “pay it forward” moments as a family.
Celebrating Together: This month, let’s model what it means to be Better Together — at home, at school, and in our community.

Reminders and More
⏰ Morning Drop-Off:
If you arrive after 8:00 a.m., please walk your child into the office to sign them in. This helps us accurately record attendance and ensures your child gets to class safely. Students should not be dropped off at the front unattended after the first bell.
🚗 Afternoon Pick-Up:
To avoid disruptions during dismissal, we ask that parents do not pick up students after 3:00 p.m. unless it’s an emergency. Our dismissal process begins promptly at 3:30 p.m., and early pickups during that time interfere with our procedures and student safety.
We completely understand that emergencies happen — if that’s the case, please contact the front office so we can assist you. Otherwise, we ask that families plan pickups before 3:00 p.m. or wait until our regular dismissal at 3:30 p.m.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep every student safe and accounted for — Every Student. Every Step. Every Day.
🧠 Counselor’s Connection!
Meet Our New Counselor, Mrs. Sarah Vargas!
Southwest Preparatory - Seguin is excited to introduce Mrs. Sarah Vargas, who joins our team as the campus school counselor. With nearly three decades of experience in education, Mrs. Vargas brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to her role.
A proud graduate of Texas A&M University–San Antonio, she holds a Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance and has served as a classroom teacher, dyslexia specialist, and counselor across grades K–12 in Judson ISD and Royal Public Schools.
Mrs. Vargas believes every child has a unique purpose and potential: “I believe every student has unique strengths, and my mission is to help them discover their full potential—academically, socially, and emotionally.” Her approach centers on empathy, understanding, and proactive support for both students and families.
Please join us in giving Mrs. Vargas a warm Seguin welcome!

Parent University: Family Literacy Month
Building Readers, One Page at a Time
November is Family Literacy Month, and Southwest Preparatory School is celebrating the power of reading together! Research shows that when families make reading a part of daily life, children develop stronger language skills, greater confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
This month’s Parent University episode, “Building Readers, One Page at a Time,” shares simple, practical ways families can strengthen reading habits at home. From setting aside 15 minutes a day to playing word games or letting your child choose the story, every small effort helps build big results.
When parents model reading, children see that it matters. When families talk about books, laugh at stories, or explore new words together, they create lasting memories that fuel academic growth and emotional connection.
Watch this month’s video to discover easy tips and fun ideas for making reading part of your family’s routine — because every page you turn together brings your child closer to success.

Safe, Healthy, Helpful Me
What our Pre-K friends are exploring this month—and how you can support their learning at home!
In November, our Pre-K students are learning all about being safe, healthy, and helpful members of their community.
Each week highlights a new way children can make a difference in their world:
Week 1: Community Helpers – Learning about the people who help us every day, like firefighters, nurses, teachers, and mail carriers.
Week 2: Kind and Helpful Me – Practicing compassion and finding ways to show kindness at home and school.
Week 3: Healthy Choices – Discovering how nutritious foods and exercise help our bodies grow strong.
Week 4: Active Me – Getting up and moving! Exploring fun ways to stay active while developing coordination and balance.
Students will continue building early math and literacy skills through hands-on learning, songs, and stories that celebrate teamwork and healthy habits.
💡 Try This at Home:
-
Point out community helpers when you’re out and about—talk about how they keep us safe and help others.
-
Practice kindness by doing something helpful for a neighbor or family member.
-
Go on a “movement adventure” together—dance, take a walk, or ride bikes while naming the patterns in your steps.
-
Limit screen time and enjoy a family read-aloud or simple game instead!
Together, we’re helping our littlest learners build confidence, care for others, and make healthy choices—Every Student. Every Step. Every Day.
