MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Franklin Community,

It has been a difficult week with the announcement of the proposed list of school closures across the city. I know that families in our Franklin community have been impacted. More information is provided on the district’s rightsizing website here. There will also be public listening sessions for students and families to attend at different schools in the next month. Let me know if you have any questions at znaegele@pps.net.

The PreACT (for all 10th grade students) and the PSAT (for 11th grade students that registered in advance) will be taken on Wednesday. Students taking the PreACT will be in the main building and students taking the PSAT will be in the gym building. Juniors who are not testing and all seniors will be attending college and career presentations in the library and cafeteria. For freshmen, this is a day to offer support and community building with their 9th grade teachers. No new information will be taught. This link will give you information about how the day is structured for 9th grade students. School will end early at 1:34pm on Wednesday.

Thank you,

Dr. Z

Please head to classrooms, businesses, and libraries near you, as well as to fhspost.com, to check out this year's first full issue of The Post. Student journalists have knocked it out of the park on stories about women's baseball, PPS blocked websites, the new Tardy Intervention Program, and a breaking investigative piece on potentially hazardous sediment on Ross Island. NEW: The Franklin Community Pantry is Opening Soon!

Did you know that Franklin has a food pantry that is open to everyone in the school community? And that you can request a weekly box of food delivered to you?

Franklin’s Community Pantry is opening for the school year the week of October 12th in a new location, Room M-137. The pantry is a partnership between a group of Franklin staff and Franklin 4 Families, a parent organization with support from NHS students. Pantry deliveries will be every Wednesday and open shopping hours are Thursdays from 3:00-4:15pm. The pantry depends on the support of Franklin families, either financial donations or donations of food.

  • Do You Need Food? Fill out the form linked here to request a food delivery or come to the pantry Thursdays between 3:00-4:15
  • Do You Want to Support the Pantry? Our biggest need is for donations of money through SchoolPay to purchase produce and proteins, our most requested items. Click here to access our SchoolPay donation portal. If you are able, consider donating monthly! Other ways to help are to donate non-expired food from our donation list or volunteer in the pantry.
  • Do You Have Questions About the Pantry? Contact Ellen Pederson, Franklin Librarian, at epederson@pps.net.
  • Do You Want to Know More About Volunteering? Check out our Sign-Up or email bronwynnb@gmail.com!

UPDATED: Lifetouch Photo Retakes

School photo retakes will happen at school on Thursday, October 15th from 8:30am to 11:30am.

We need volunteers. If you can volunteer from 8:30am to 11:30am, please email sharvey@pps.net. The first two people to reach out, get a 50% discount on their Lifetouch picture package!

Retakes are ONLY for families who purchased photos but are unhappy with them. Your student should bring their photo packet to school with them on October 15th in order to exchange it for a new packet. New ID cards will not be printed on this day. A student's new retake photo will be in the yearbook.

NEW INFORMATION: Several of you have inquired about ordering photos. Here is the response from Lifetouch: After Picture Day, families can view and order portraits at mylifetouch.com using their student's school ID number.

To get started, families should sign in to their MyLifetouch account, or create one if they do not already have an account. Once logged in, select "Add Student or Event" and then choose "Student ID."

When prompted for a postal code, please enter the school's ZIP code (97206), not the family's home ZIP code. Families can then follow the remaining steps to locate and order portraits.

If families need additional assistance, please contact our Parent Help Line at 1-800-736-4753.

Let's make this Harvest Festival a great experience for the community!

Events will be 2 hours in length and attendees can drop in to participate for any amount of time during that period. This program will visit a different Portland park each month to learn from and about the plants and animals that call it home.

In October, we will be hosting an Explore Your Park Series event at Mt Tabor Park. The park entrance address is at SE 69th and Yamhill, and we will be located near the playground. We will be learning about bats and other creatures!
