Note from Dr. Jessica Langman

Hello Briar Glen Families,

It's incredible to believe that we will be moving into the fall season next week. It was great to share my principal's report at last evening's PTC meeting. I was amazed at reporting on how much we have done and accomplished so far in the 21 days we have been in session! In this week's message, you will find a link to my Building Together Family Feedback Survey. When I became principal of Briar Glen School, I shared with families that I would be creating a survey to listen and learn from our families. This feedback will help me better understand our school's strengths, identify opportunities for improvement and strengthen our relationships. Please take a moment to answer a few questions. This survey is anonymous and should take less then 2-3 minutes to complete. The survey will be accepting responses today through Wednesday, September 23rd. Thank you in advance for your time!

Have a great weekend ahead!

Sincerely,

Dr. Jessica Langman
Principal

A Message from Nurse Hannah

Health Records Reminder!

Section 27-8.1 of the Illinois State Code requires that each child present proof of having required immunizations and a physical examination within one year of entering preschool, kindergarten and sixth grade and upon transferring into Illinois from outside of the state or outside of the country.

You have until October 15, 2026 to complete the necessary requirements for your child’s records. If the records are not complete at that time, your child could be subject to exclusion from school until the requirements are on file at the school. Families can track bus travel with free FirstView app

Families can track their student’s bus trips to and from school with a free busing app. The FirstView 1.0 app can track the bus, show an estimated number of minutes until the bus will arrive at a stop, and send a notification when buses arrive at school.

FirstView 1.0 requires a district code to set up tracking. The code for Community Consolidated School District 89 for the 2026-27 school year is: Z6S4N

CCSD 89 bus routes are expected to be available in the app by the end of this week.

The FirstView app is available for Apple and Android users and can be identified by its red icon. Families that had been using the previous FirstView app will need to download the new version called “FirstView 1.0”. The app will track both regular-education and special-education busing.

More information, including instructions on downloading the app, is available at www.ccsd89.org/busapp.

Reminder: District policy on cell phones and personal devices during school day

Per CCSD 89 policy, cell phones and other personal electronic devices must remain out of sight and may not be used during the school day. While recent state legislation mandating this takes effect in 2027–28, our district policy is already active. Devices must be put away throughout the instructional day unless an approved exception is documented with the district. This policy helps to minimize distractions, disruptions and privacy concerns. Read full FAQs for parents and students

If your child uses their phone to manage a medical condition or for an approved academic reason, families should complete the CCSD 89 Student Use of Personal Technology Waiver on an annual basis to request an exemption. Completed forms should be returned to the Briar Glen main office.

Reminder: Always bring an ID when visiting our school

As a reminder, anyone who is visiting Briar Glen Elementary or picking up students early must check in using the iPad in our school's lobby. You will need to bring an ID (license, state ID, passport) whenever you are picking up a student or visiting during the school day. The check-in process takes less than two minutes, and it is an important part of our safety system.
