Clear Backpacks
Beginning this school year, all students will be required to use clear or transparent backpacks. This decision was not made lightly. Last year, we saw a concerning rise in students bringing items to campus that jeopardized the safety and integrity of our learning environment. Clear backpacks are a proactive measure to help school staff quickly identify and prevent inappropriate or unsafe materials from entering our school.
We understand this may raise some concerns, particularly around the privacy of personal items such as feminine hygiene products. Please know:
Our school nurseโs office provides feminine products discreetly and at no cost.
We will also offer small pouches for female students to carry personal items within their clear backpacks.
We are committed to protecting the dignity and privacy of all students while prioritizing the safety of our campus.
Important To-Do's
Cell Phone Usage Policy Update
In alignment with the new Arizona state law prohibiting the use of cell phones on school grounds during instructional hours, Valley View Leadership Academy is implementing the following policy to promote an environment focused on learning, safety, and engagement.
General Policy
Students may not use or access cell phones or other personal electronic devices (e.g., smartwatches, earbuds, tablets) during school hours โ including during class time, passing periods, recess, and lunch.
Cell phones must be powered off and stored in backpacks or designated areas upon entering campus and may not be visible or in use until the end of the school day.
Permitted Use (Exceptions)
With explicit permission from a teacher or administrator, students may use a cell phone for:
Emergency situations.Educational purposes approved in the lesson plan.
Specific health needs as documented in an IEP or 504 Plan.
Before and After School
Cell phone use is permitted before 7:00 a.m. and after 2:30 p.m. while students are off school grounds or with a parent/guardian. Use must still follow all district-wide expectations for respectful and appropriate behavior.
Violations & Consequences
Violations of this policy will be addressed in accordance with school discipline procedures:
First Offense โ Verbal warning and phone is held in the front office until the end of the day.
Second Offense โ Phone confiscated; parent/guardian must pick up the device.
Third Offense or More โ Progressive discipline which may include lunch detention, parent conference, and loss of phone privileges on campus for a designated period.
Note: Valley View Leadership Academy is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged electronic devices.
Communication with Students
In the event of an emergency or urgent matter, parents/guardians should contact the front office directly. Students will not be permitted to use cell phones during the school day for personal calls, texts, or social media.
Leadership in Action
"Our theme this year is Leadership in Action. Whether it's in the classroom, on the playground, or at home, we believe every student has the power to lead. Together, with your partnership, we will make this our most impactful year yet." And as always, have a great day, the EAGLE WAY!
