Edison's Weekly Update

Welcome to Edison's School and Family Compact information. As a Title I school, Edison develops this compact to outline expectations for all stakeholders. This compact is aligned to our School Improvement Plan and is reviewed by Site Council annually in the Fall.

We believe that families, school staff, and our community should work as partners to help each student follow schoolwide expectations and reach their highest academic potential. Below is our shared commitment to support student achievement at Edison High School.

As a school, we commit to communicating with our families in the following ways:

• Parent-teacher conferences will be held at school on October 13 & 14 and again on February 11 & 12.

• At the State of the School presentation (September 17) we will outline our curriculum, instruction, and state standards.

• State and district assessment information will be provided on our website.

• Reports on student progress (report cards) will be mailed home at the end of each quarter. Parents can check Parent Portal daily for up-to-date information.

• Information on when and how family members can meet with their student’s teacher and how to partner with the school is provided upon registration and on our website (translated).

• Updates provided through weekly newsletter, Edison website and social media.

As the parent/guardian, I agree to:

• Encourage my child to practice reading regularly.

• Stay up-to-date on my child’s progress toward graduation.

• Support my child to get to school on time, every day.

• Work in partnership with school staff to get information, request support, and resolve concerns.

As a Community Member, I agree to:

• Attend Edison public events in support of my community school.
• Contribute to ongoing enrollment efforts by sharing positive information about Edison.

As the School Staff and Teacher, I agree to:

• Believe all students can learn.

• Ensure students read quality texts in my class 2-3 times per week, providing direct instruction to support improved reading comprehension.

• Provide opportunities for students to prepare for assessments and to provide re-assessment opportunities when appropriate.

• Maintain accurate and timely academic and attendance records.

• Communicate both celebrations and concerns with my students and their families.

As the Principal, I agree to:

• Welcome students, parents, and community members into our school.

• Ensure a positive and safe learning environment.

• Provide opportunities for teachers, staff, and parents to form partnerships.

• Provide staff development in order to promote student achievement.

• Uphold accountability standards for staff.

As a student, I agree to:

• Believe that I can and will learn.

• Come to school on time each day, prepared to learn.

• Respect learning time for myself and fellow students.

• Ask my teacher or staff questions when I don’t understand.

• Follow the behavior expectations in class, the Edison High School Student Handbook, and the MPS Code of Conduct and Behavior Policies.

• Care for myself and others.

• Speak up for myself and my peers.
