May is Mental Health Awareness Month

This years theme is "Turn Awareness into Action". This theme encourages individuals and communities to move beyond simply recognizing the importance of mental health but to take concrete steps to improve it. This includes practicing self-care, advocating for change, and seeking support. There are numerous things you can do to improve your mental health: exercise, deep breathing, gratitude journaling, spending time in nature, or connecting with others. Activities like these can help reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance overall well-being. Remember, your mental health is just as important as your physical health so take the time to take care of yourself.

Tech Fair Awards

🏆 Aynor Elementary Students Shine at Horry County Schools Technology Fair!

Aynor Elementary School is proud to announce that 90 of our talented students showcased their creativity, innovation, and technical skills at the annual Horry County Schools Technology Fair, held in April.

Our young tech leaders presented a variety of impressive projects that highlighted their problem-solving abilities and enthusiasm for digital learning. From creative coding to engineering prototypes, these students amazed judges and attendees alike with their presentations.

Congratulations to our Award Winners:

FIRST PLACE

***Lilly Skipper & Charlie Tyler (2nd & 3rd Grade Division) – Digital Art - Photo Production: “Sportnopoly Game”
- With a combination of 3D modeling and graphic design, this newly revamped game was a beautiful piece of artwork. Almost too pretty to play!

***Reed Burris, Max Xenakis, & Owen DiMaggio (4th & 5th Grade Division) - Coding & Software/Game Development: “Gimkit Game” - This team used their coding and programming skills to create a game for kids (or adults) of all ages. They developed characters and various backgrounds and levels for their game.

***Noah Hairston (4th & 5th Grade Division) - Passion Projects: “Racing Game Simulator” - This project is a well constructed racing simulator rig. Complete with a steering wheel and buttons to control it. All the electronics are hidden on the inside connected together so that it works to make the in-game car steer.

SECOND PLACE

***Chase Samanns, John Thomas Dunn, & Barrett Cook (2nd & 3rd Grade Division) – Digital Art - Animation: “The Basketball Mystery”
- A team of basketball players lost their basketball right before the big game! This group planned a story to incorporate what they love most about being on a team. They designed characters and used their coding skills to create an animation that was entertaining for all. NOT Pictured: John Thomas Dunn

***Alyssa Hampton & Braylee Squires (2nd & 3rd Grade Division) - Passion Projects: “Dueling Drones” - These engineers built their own drones and learned to pilot them. They used their building skills, creativity, and teamwork to complete a successful mission with their drones.

THIRD PLACE

***Josie & Riley Hunsucker (2nd & 3rd Grade Division) – Digital Art - Animation: “”
- This sister duo planned out an animation of their own with an exciting adventure. Their coding and programming skills are shown in their entertaining story.

***Molly Marion & Ellyanna Nathan (2nd & 3rd Grade Division) - Digital Art - Animation: “The Puppy Rescue” - An entertaining story about a girl and her dog. The authors and animators of this story used their design process skills and the programming they have learned about to write a great story about a puppy that gets adopted to his “fur”ever home.

***JJ Hyman, Dallas Drew, & Beckham Norton (2nd & 3rd Grade Division) - Robotics & Automation: “Gatorbot” - Their project was equal parts cool and cute! The Gatorbot is able to move and walk on his own with clever coding and awesome programming.

All of our students demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication, and we couldn’t be prouder of how they represented Aynor Elementary. A huge thank-you goes out to our teachers and families for supporting these learners in their technology journeys!

We look forward to seeing what our future innovators will create next. Great job, Blue Jackets! 💙💻✨

SAVE THE DATE: 2026 Tech Fair - April 1st!

Our #1 goal is to ensure that Aynor Elementary is a SAFE environment for our Blue Jackets. To do this, we hold a variety of safety drills throughout the year. Safety drills enhance school safety by allowing students and staff to understand proper emergency procedures outside of a crisis situation.

What drills will our Blue Jackets participate in throughout the school year?

Fire Drill: Students and staff practice exiting the building in case of a fire.

Tornado Drill: Students and staff take safety position lining up along an interior wall or the safest area, in case of a tornado.

Earthquake Drill: Students and staff DROP, COVER and HOLD ON, getting under a table or desk if one is near, in case of an earthquake.

Intruder Drill: Our school has adopted the “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students and staff will be training, practicing, and drilling the protocol.

Metal Detectors: Staff will use a metal detector to check students and their materials/backpacks as they enter the building.
