Message from Principal Gale
🌟Off to a Great Start at Washington!🌟
We are off to a great start this school year! Our students are doing an awesome job learning the routines and procedures that help us focus on academic goals. It was wonderful meeting so many families at Open House and seeing so many of you take advantage of tech support for the Rooms app. At Washington, we believe communication is key to success—please continue using the app to share concerns or ask questions with your child’s teacher.
🌟 Keeping Washington Safe & Strong! 🌟
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our Wildcats safe! We appreciate your support in strengthening our dismissal procedures and your care in following traffic laws—avoiding bus zones, parking on the correct side of the street, and encouraging students to use the crosswalks at arrival and dismissal. Together, we’re making safety a priority and setting our students up for success.
We couldn’t do this without your continued support—here’s to another amazing year at Washington!
Mrs. Simmons, School Counselor
Hello, Wildcat Families!
Mrs. Gale shared Washington's Vision Statement in August's newsletter. Now I'd like to share our District's Vision Statement, in case you haven't seen it. Truly, when you read most schools' vision statements, they're all very similar but OURS? Our vision statements are the best I've ever read and truly capture our hearts for both our students and their success. Take a look now at our District Vision Statement:
"North Platte Public Schools is a destination school district and community that embraces innovative opportunities and distinguished programs to create highly competitive advantages for all students, instilling the Canteen Spirit in an evolving world.
The Canteen Spirit embodies generosity, selflessness, and unwavering support through
- Service
- Pride
- Collaboration
- Grit"
I'd like to take a moment to talk about GRIT. As a School Counselor, I hear it all—kids playing well together, kids making mean comments, stories of grief, struggles, and heartaches. These young students are learning how to “do life,” and it’s a joy to help them grow and develop the skills they’ll need both now and in the future.
We practice things like, communicating well, resolving conflict, being the kind of friend you want to have, managing big emotions, treating others with kindness, and working hard, even when it’s tough.
But here’s the truth: sometimes you can do everything right but challenges still come. Someone might say something mean. Math might always feel hard. Life throws difficulties at everyone, no matter our age.
That’s why I love our school’s Vision, because it emphasizes the importance of grit. Grit means we don’t give up when life gets tough. Instead, we push through, adapt, and keep working toward our goals.
So what does grit look like for an elementary student? It might mean practicing math facts over and over again or asking for help when it feels too hard. It might mean telling a friend how their words made you feel or even making the decision to walk away from someone who isn’t being kind. It might even mean coping with big changes at home, finding strength in the good, and moving forward.
I mean, think about us as adults. How many hard things have we faced? Too many to recall. But here's the game plan. By teaching kids their value and how to handle challenges, we're protecting them through preparing them for lives filled with success and joy BECAUSE they're developing what they need to face all the hard things. Instead of being crushed by those hard times, they'll face them with hope and grit. And THAT? THAT is something to take pride in.
Have a great September, Wildcat Nation!
