OAASIS Team Members understand the needs of students because they are all current or former adult education students themselves. Team Members represent students at the local level by contributing at their adult education site. Many assist with student orientations and student retention, organize community outreach projects, offer peer mentoring, student organization activities, fundraisers for scholarships, and so much more! Team Members advocate and bring awareness to adult education statewide by organizing events, such as their annual Legislative Dinner, to give students the opportunity to share their stories with legislators from their districts.
Polytech Adult Education GED Celebration
Delaware's 3rd Annual National Education Honor Society Induction Ceremony
On Saturday April 25, 31 students representing Adult Education programs from across the state were proudly inducted into Delaware’s 3rd Annual National Adult Education Honor Society. Held at Polytech High School, the ceremony was a powerful celebration of perseverance, commitment, and academic excellence. Each inductee was selected for their outstanding attendance, positive attitude, and strong work ethic—qualities that reflect the very heart of adult education.
The celebration was further elevated by inspiring remarks from two of the three OAASIS Hall of Fame recipients, Quinele Cherry (DTCC George Campus) and Courtney Lord (Sussex Tech). Tamaya Allen (Red Clay) was unable to attend the ceremony. Additional remarks were delivered by Senator Darius J. Brown, who represents Senate District 2. The Senator’s words of encouragement honored the determination of the inductees and affirmed the importance of their continued success..
Guests enjoyed a warm, buffet-style breakfast before the ceremony began, setting the tone for a morning filled with pride and recognition. Each student was formally honored with a pin, honor cord, and National Adult Education Honor Society certificate and coffee mug. These were presented by State Director Maureen Whelan, Senator Brown, and OAASIS Advisor Beverly Houston.
The program was beautifully guided by Joanne Chandler, Director of the ACE Network, whose leadership as emcee brought energy and grace to the event. OAASIS Team Lead, Chanteea Harmon, delivered a heartfelt introduction of the Hall of Fame inductees, reading their bios and highlighting their inspiring journeys and achievements.
To close the celebration, two televisions were raffled off, bringing excitement and joy to an already unforgettable occasion. The ceremony stood as a testament to the resilience, dedication, and bright futures of Delaware’s adult learners. Congratulations to all!🎉🎊
