WHY K-5 Career Awareness?
To help students learn about the choices available to them in their future, the state of Michigan has developed a framework (The Michigan Career Development Model) that helps schools in Michigan implement career development activities for all students (K-12). It is designed to prepare students for careers and lifelong learning, supported by state legislation that requires districts to incorporate K-12 grade level appropriate career development education.
Career Development begins early. "Career awareness at the elementary level helps students develop a sense of self, discover an awareness of personal interests and strengths, and explore the world of work beyond jobs held by family members. The goal is to provide students with a wide range of experiences that build confidence, challenge job stereotypes, and expand their view of the immense possibilities." -Michigan Career Development Model
