Haslett Happenings
January 22, 2025
Winter is officially here, and that means chilly days and maybe even some snow! While we love getting our students outside for fresh air and exercise, their safety and comfort are our top priority. Here's a reminder about our winter recess practice:
When do we head outdoors?
- If the temperature or windchill is above zero degrees, bundle up those kiddos, we'll send them out to enjoy the winter weather!
- If the temperature or windchill is zero degrees or below, we'll keep the fun going with indoor activities.
Dress for Success (in all kinds of weather!)
Michigan winters can be unpredictable, so it's best to be prepared for anything. Please send your child to school each day with the following:
- Warm coat: A must-have for every winter day!
- Snow pants: Essential for playing in the snow (and staying dry!).
- Hat: Lots of heat escapes through their heads, so keep those ears covered!
- Gloves or Mittens: Frozen fingers are no fun!
- Boots: Waterproof boots are key for navigating snowy or slushy playgrounds.
Label, Label, Label!
With so many students bundled up in similar winter gear, it's easy for things to get lost. Please clearly label all of your child's winter items with their name to help ensure they make it back home.
We encourage you to talk with your child about appropriate winter play and staying safe during recess. Let's make this a fun and enjoyable winter season for everyone!
