AHS October Updates

Parent Teacher Conferences -- Thank you to everyone who came in to meet with advisory teachers. If for some reason you were unable to attend, please reach out to your child's advisory teacher and they will share information with you.

Honor Roll, Amazing Tiger and Perfect Attendance -- It is that time of year. We are almost done with the first nine weeks. (October 10) We will be giving out goodies to our students who earned A/AB Honor Roll, Amazing Tiger or Perfect Attendance on October 24th. What is Amazing Tiger? That is where teachers nominate a student or two who works hard but didn't quiet make Honor Roll. Not all students will have perfect straight A's but work very hard and this way, we can recognize them as well.

No Tardies = Homework pass -- Before October 3rd, students with NO tardies the first 6 weeks will receive a homework pass. They can use this on one class. Thank you to all these students for getting to class on time.

On the flip side, we are also pulling reports and students who have too many tardies are being given lunch detention or ISS depending on the amount of tardies. If students do not report to lunch detention, they are first given extra days, and then if they miss again, they are given lunch detention. Lunch detention takes the first 20 minutes of lunch, then they are released to get lunch the last 10 minutes.

Attendance Excusals -- As per District Policy, Absences need to be excused within 48 hours of the absence. After that, we cannot make changes. You can call the Let's Talk line at 575-812- 8573 to excuse your child.

Picture Re- takes -- If your child missed picture day, we will be doing re-takes November 6th. This is only for students who missed picture day OR if you received and are unhappy with purchased pictures.

Senior Pictures -- Week of October 16th.

If you have seniors who need to schedule their senior picture, but they don't have a session code, please have them call Prestige Portraits at (855) 918-2930 and select option 2. From there they will be connected to an agent who can schedule their appointment. Let them know they can also contact Scotty Williams (yearbook adviser) at scotty.williams@alamogorodschools.org with questions.

Health Office and Shots -- As you know, some shots are required by the state of New Mexico for students attending Public School. (Regulation no. 75-17) We have many students who are currently non compliant and will be receiving a 3rd level which is just before disenrollment. We do not wish to disenroll any student especially for shots. If you can provide a date & time of apt for shots, we will not follow through with the disenrollment. Panoramic Pictures for Seniors, JROTC, & Choir--

October 23rd From 9 am (seniors) through 10:30am.

Election Day November 4th -- No School

Veterans Day Assembly -- Friday, November 7th -- NO School November 11th.

There will be two morning assemblies. Time schedule to be sent later.

PSAT testing -- OCOTBER 15th -- for Freshman and Sophomores. Juniors will be doing Horizon testing which is to help us have data on what we still need to work on before the SAT in March. Students will start testing soon after the day starts. Students who arrive after 9:15 will be sent to the library due to testing in progress. At that time, we might call to have you pick them up since they will just be sitting in one room doing nothing until lunch time.

Potential schedule changes after PSAT data -- We want to support lower readers. for students whose PSAT data shows to be below proficient, we will look at changing them into a reading recovery at the semester. We will start with sophomores first. We already used IMMSSA data from middle school testing to support freshman this semester.

Impact Aid Forms --

These forms will be going out in October. Please make every effort to complete these if they apply to you. This helps with funding for our school district.

Please remember when driving through the back lot in the morning to do the speed limit and watch for students. We have athletes and driver ed students being dropped off in the back during the early morning hours.

Dropping off in front of AHS before and after school. Please pull through the drop off lane to make room for other drivers. Many stop at the corner and this creates a back up onto Cuba Ave. By pulling though all the way, this helps the flow of traffic. Also, please watch for students crossing. Do not allow students to exit a vehicle from the middle lane. I understand we all have places to be in the morning, but taking a little extra time to be safe is good for everyone.

Yes, it is already that time to start thinking about ordering your yearbook. You can pre-order your copy of the 2026 Eye of the Tiger using the link below. The cost is $65 when you pre-order, and the order deadline is March 20. Yearbooks will be distributed to students in May. There will be a very limited number of extra yearbooks to purchase in the bookstore for $75 after all preorders have been distributed. These books will be sold on a first-come basis until sold out. If you are planning to purchase a senior ad, please keep in mind that purchasing a senior ad comes with one yearbook. Senior Photos will be taken October 15-18

There is no charge for the Yearbook pose, and seniors much have their photo taken to be in the yearbook.

You will need to schedule your photography session soon.
