FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEPTEMBER 17, 2024
Meridian, MS – The Meridian Public School District continues to make strides in academic achievement, maintaining its successful status in the 2023-2024 Accountability Ratings released by the Mississippi Department of Education on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. MPSD saw significant increases in proficiency across the board in English Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science. The district also saw noteworthy improvements in College and Career Readiness metrics, alongside an outstanding double-digit performance increase among the English Language Learner (ELL) subgroup.
“I applaud our students, teachers, staff, parents and community for their hard work in helping reach these gains,” said Dr. Amy Carter, MPSD Superintendent. “Moving forward our focus remains on sustaining this momentum, improving even further, and ensuring every student is set up for success in academics and life.”
Mississippi’s school grading system considers many indicators, including how well students perform on Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) tests for English Language Arts and Mathematics in grades 3-8 and high school, whether students are showing improvement on those tests from year to year, and whether students are graduating within four years. The system also factors in performance on the ACT and advanced high school courses and how well schools are helping English learners and the lowest-achieving students make progress toward proficiency.
