Ralya second graders traveled back in time for a hands-on, multi-day learning adventure at the Meridian Historical Village. Teachers coordinated community experts to come in and share more about corn shelling, gardening, fishing, trapping, sewing, and more. Students participated in a variety of pioneer chores such as hauling water and washing clothes, using a 2-man saw to cut wood, tin punching, rug beating, cross-stitching, archery, and fishing. Students learned to braid, made yarn dolls, churned (and ate) butter, and learned to weave a bracelet.Through this incredibly engaging experience, students were able to 'feel' what it might have been like to be a child long ago. Ralya second grade teachers would like to share a special 'thank you' to the many parents, grandparents, and volunteer presenters who helped make the experience something students will remember for years to come.
